Position Details

Job Title: Senior Recovery Officer
Reports To: Manager Recovery
Function Level: Senior Officer

Job Purpose

The Senior Recovery Officer will be responsible for managing defaulted borrowers and developing effective recovery strategies to maximize loan recoveries and collections.

The role focuses on:

• Timely and cost-effective recovery actions
• Improving recovery rates
• Working closely with business teams, legal teams, and external stakeholders
• Providing recovery insights and lessons learned to the origination/business teams

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Recovery Management

• Review customers’ cases and develop strategies to maximize loan collections.
• Advise supervisors and management on appropriate recovery strategies.
• Review and visit collateral for defaulted customers and determine suitable recovery approaches.
• Institute recovery actions on defaulted accounts when required.
• Ensure timely and effective implementation of recovery strategies.

Portfolio & Collections Oversight

• Develop recovery action plans for accounts under assigned portfolio.
• Monitor implementation of recovery actions to achieve recovery targets and budget expectations.
• Identify accounts suitable for settlement and follow internal procedures to conclude settlements.

Supervision & Coordination

• Mentor and supervise junior staff members.
• Coordinate with:
  • Auctioneers
  • Debt collectors
  • External recovery agents
• Ensure assigned duties are performed effectively.

Reporting & Compliance

• Prepare weekly and monthly recovery reports, projections, and performance updates.
• Ensure compliance with:
  • Bank policies and procedures
  • Regulatory requirements
  • Recovery laws and standards
• Protect the reputation of the bank by ensuring operational and regulatory compliance.

Escalation & Special Cases

• Refer insurance claims, retrenchments, disabilities, deceased cases, insolvencies, tracing matters, investigations, and repossession actions to the supervisor in a timely manner.

• Strong recovery and collections management skills
• Knowledge of banking recovery procedures
• Good analytical and decision-making abilities
• Strong communication and negotiation skills
• Ability to work with multiple stakeholders
• Leadership and mentoring capabilities
• Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements
