TAWIDO operates a national helpline and call center utilizing:

  • Bulk SMS
  • Interactive Voice Response (IVR)
  • SMS Chat Platforms
  • Toll-Free Services

These services provide awareness, counselling, referrals, and linkage to essential services through a broad network of service providers across Tanzania.

The organization has extensive experience implementing HIV programs, supporting key and vulnerable populations, facilitating ART initiation, and combating stigma and discrimination.

Currently, TAWIDO is implementing the J4S Project in:

  • Dar es Salaam
  • Morogoro
  • Dodoma
  • Singida

The project is funded by International Planned Parenthood Federation and focuses on addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) among key and vulnerable populations.


Position Summary

TAWIDO seeks qualified, experienced, and motivated individuals to serve as Helpline Counselors. The successful candidates will provide counselling, psychosocial support, referral services, and awareness creation to clients accessing TAWIDO’s hotline and support services.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Helpline Counselors will be responsible for:

Counselling and Psychosocial Support

  • Providing counselling, guidance, and psychosocial support to clients.
  • Applying professional counselling techniques to address client needs.
  • Supporting clients experiencing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and other vulnerabilities.

Awareness and Advocacy

  • Assisting in the provision of VPR support.
  • Raising awareness among GBV survivors on reporting gender-based violence and other human rights violations.
  • Promoting the hotline number through various communication channels to reach more beneficiaries.

Referral and Client Support

  • Linking clients to appropriate services and service providers.
  • Following up with clients to ensure continuity of care and support.
  • Supporting client retention within relevant service programs.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Preparing and submitting:
    • Daily reports
    • Weekly reports
    • Monthly reports
    • Annual reports
  • Documenting monthly activity reports and success stories.
  • Maintaining accurate records of client interactions and service outcomes.

Community Resource Education

  • Educating clients about available community resources, including:
    • Support groups
    • Income Generating Activities (IGA)
    • Friendly social services
    • Other support programs

Representation

  • Representing the TAWIDO Call Center in meetings, events, and other activities when assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must possess:

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Psychology
    • Health Information
    • Social Work
    • Or another related field

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 2–5 years of relevant experience in similar roles.

Knowledge and Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of health and development programs in Tanzania.
  • Familiarity with national guidelines, standards, and protocols.
  • Experience working with NGOs involved in:
    • Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
    • Mental Health
    • Psychology
    • Human Rights
  • Ability to provide professional counselling services.
  • Ability to document success stories and prepare quality reports.
