Job Opportunity – Engineering & Utilities Manager (Maltings)
About the Opportunity
A leading global beverage company is seeking an experienced Engineering & Utilities Manager to provide strategic leadership for Engineering and Utilities functions within the Maltings Plant.
The role is responsible for ensuring plant reliability, equipment effectiveness, process control health, environmental compliance, and adherence to engineering standards and corporate governance requirements.
The successful candidate will lead strategic initiatives that enhance operational excellence, equipment integrity, and continuous improvement across the plant.
Position Summary
Job Purpose
To provide strategic leadership for the Engineering and Utilities functions in the Maltings Plant by:
- Ensuring plant reliability across all process areas.
- Maintaining process systems and control health.
- Driving environmental plant effectiveness.
- Ensuring compliance with engineering standards and relevant legislation.
- Supporting continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Health, Safety and Environmental Management
The successful candidate will:
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Promote a safe, healthy, and risk-free working environment.
- Maintain housekeeping and safety standards across the plant.
- Support environmental sustainability initiatives.
2. Human Resource Management
Responsibilities include:
- Developing employees through performance and development discussions (OPR sessions).
- Identifying and addressing training and capability gaps.
- Maintaining a positive industrial relations environment.
- Managing technical talent pipelines for critical roles.
- Overseeing apprenticeship and artisan development programs.
3. Engineering Systems & Instrumentation Integrity
The role holder will:
- Ensure engineering system integrity and change control compliance.
- Maintain and calibrate plant instrumentation.
- Ensure reliable operation of utilities and process systems.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify improvement opportunities.
4. Engineering Standards Compliance
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring compliance with documented engineering standards.
- Developing and updating engineering standards through:
- ZBS Maintenance
- Energy & Fluids programs
- Promoting best engineering practices throughout the plant.
5. Business Performance & Reporting
The Engineering & Utilities Manager will:
- Diagnose operational and business performance challenges.
- Collaborate with specialist teams to develop effective solutions.
- Monitor organizational performance indicators.
- Provide accurate data and reports for management decision-making.
- Contribute to people and organizational scorecards.
6. Employee Engagement
The successful candidate will:
- Analyze employee engagement survey results.
- Review workforce performance and feedback data.
- Develop and implement engagement improvement initiatives.
- Foster a high-performance and inclusive workplace culture.
7. VPO Leadership
- Lead the People Pillar VPO (Voyager Plant Optimization) Agenda across the plant.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support operational excellence and productivity improvement programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
Preferred Qualification
- Master’s Degree in Engineering or a related field is an added advantage.
Experience Requirements
Applicants should possess:
Management Experience
- 2–3 years of experience in a managerial role within a technical services department.
Industry Experience
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) environment.
