Job Purpose
To support the Financial Controller in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, compliance with statutory and tax requirements, and efficient management of accounting operations in accordance with IFRS, TFRS, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
The role also supports audit processes, working capital management, and continuous improvement of finance policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
A. Financial Accounting Functions
- Prepare annual and interim financial statements in compliance with IFRS, TFRS, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure accurate recording of financial transactions in General Ledger (GL) accounts in line with GAAP, IAS/IFRS, and company policies.
- Conduct periodic GL reviews to ensure completeness, accuracy, and proper classification of transactions.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and regulatory purposes.
- Perform General Ledger and Sub-ledger reconciliations and submit them to the Financial Controller for review and approval.
- Ensure timely and accurate posting of financial transactions through collaboration with other departments.
- Coordinate financial information from various departments for annual and semi-annual reports.
- Work closely with the Management Accountant during month-end closing and budget preparation processes.
B. Internal Controls
- Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of internal control frameworks.
- Ensure compliance with finance policies, procedures, and controls across all accounting cycles, including:
- Procure-to-Pay (P2P)
- Order-to-Cash (O2C)
- Hire-to-Retire (H2R)
- Book-to-Report (B2R)
- Identify control weaknesses and recommend corrective actions.
- Participate in internal control reviews and process improvement initiatives.
C. Tax Functions
- Review tax returns including:
- VAT
- Corporate Tax
- Withholding Tax
- Other statutory taxes
- Prepare tax reconciliations between accounting records and tax filings.
- Prepare management tax reports on compliance status, exposures, and tax positions.
- Act as the primary liaison with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) on routine tax matters.
- Support tax audits by providing documentation, reconciliations, and explanations.
D. Audit Supervision and Coordination
- Serve as the primary contact person for:
- External Auditors
- Internal Auditors
- Tax Auditors
- Coordinate audit schedules, samples, and supporting documentation.
- Support inventory stock-taking exercises and transaction verification.
- Ensure timely resolution and closure of audit findings.
- Coordinate internal audits across all key finance processes and act as the link between auditors and process owners.
E. Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) Management
Accounts Payable
- Oversee invoice processing.
- Manage supplier reconciliations.
- Ensure timely supplier payments.
Accounts Receivable
- Oversee billing and collections processes.
- Reconcile customer accounts.
- Monitor customer balances.
Working Capital Management
- Support effective cash flow management.
- Optimize working capital through strong AP and AR controls.
- Review ageing reports and implement actions to reduce overdue balances.
F. Finance Policies and Procedures
- Work with the Financial Controller to develop, review, and update finance policies and procedures.
- Ensure policies align with company strategy, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Support finance process automation and improvement initiatives.
G. Operational and Strategic Support
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting support.
- Assist in:
- Financial modelling activities
- ESG reporting
- Regulatory submissions
- Special finance projects
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance reporting quality and operational efficiency.
Key Competencies and Skills
- Strong knowledge of:
- IFRS
- TFRS
- Tanzanian Tax Laws and Regulations
- Financial reporting expertise.
- General Ledger management and reconciliation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Understanding of internal controls and audit processes.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
Academic and Professional Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Accounting
- Finance
- Commerce (Accounting)
- Related field
- MBA is an added advantage.
- Professional certification such as:
- CPA (T)
- ACCA
- Equivalent qualification
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably within business or industrial sectors.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Performance will be measured through:
- Timeliness and accuracy of financial reports.
- Quality and completeness of General Ledger reconciliations.
- Compliance with statutory and tax requirements.
- Resolution rate of audit findings.
- Efficiency of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes.
- Effectiveness of internal controls.
