Job Purpose
The Applications Support Officer is responsible for managing, maintaining, and enhancing the bank’s application systems to ensure stable, secure, and reliable technology platforms that support business operations.
The role also focuses on:
- Ensuring high system availability and reliability.
- Supporting technology projects and application enhancements.
- Driving innovation and process improvements.
- Coordinating with internal stakeholders and technology vendors.
- Supporting business continuity and disaster recovery initiatives.
- Resolving application-related incidents within agreed service levels.
Key Responsibilities
1. System Stability and Resilience
The successful candidate will:
- Ensure continuous availability and reliability of banking applications.
- Analyze application performance issues and implement improvements.
- Define availability requirements for new and existing applications.
- Optimize IT infrastructure to improve service delivery.
- Monitor and report on system availability and performance.
- Reduce the frequency and duration of service interruptions.
- Identify and implement corrective actions for system issues.
- Develop and maintain application availability improvement plans.
- Generate and distribute availability reports after:
- Database processing
- End-of-Day (EOD) runs
- End-of-Month (EOM) runs
- Conduct regular availability review meetings with business and IT teams.
- Coordinate initiatives aimed at improving application uptime.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies and best practices.
2. Project Implementation and UAT Support
- Support implementation of new business, government, TRA, and group projects.
- Assist with User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Conduct sanity testing before production deployment.
- Create and configure new banking products within core banking applications.
- Participate in project meetings from initiation through completion.
- Support implementation of innovative technology solutions.
3. Business Continuity Management (BCM) & Disaster Recovery (DR)
- Participate in Business Continuity Management activities.
- Support Disaster Recovery testing for critical systems.
- Assist with annual business continuity testing.
- Ensure business services can be restored within agreed recovery timelines.
4. Operational Support
Application Operations
- Implement tariffs and charges within banking systems.
- Support internal and external audit activities.
- Resolve incidents and communicate resolutions to users within SLA.
- Perform daily server health checks.
- Restart services and servers when required.
- Monitor:
- Online banking transactions
- ATM transactions
- Maintenance transactions
End-of-Day / End-of-Month Processing
- Ensure unauthorized transactions are cleared before processing.
- Confirm branch batches are closed before EOD/EOM execution.
- Execute EOD and EOM batch processing successfully.
Technical Support
- Support migration of systems from development to production environments.
- Participate in upgrades, installations, and system configurations.
- Troubleshoot application-related issues.
- Restore services and data when incidents occur.
- Follow change management procedures.
- Review changes for production risks.
- Support primary data centre operations.
- Evaluate and learn new technologies.
- Investigate and resolve complex production incidents.
