Job Summary

The SME Credit Analyst is responsible for ensuring strict adherence to the bank’s Credit and Provisioning Policy and approved credit processes. The role acts as a credit expert supporting Relationship Managers (RMs), providing quality credit analysis, recommending lending structures, monitoring SME portfolios, and maintaining data integrity within the Credit Lens system.


Key Responsibilities

1. Credit Analysis, Evaluation and Recommendations (50%)

Main Duties

  • Prepare credit applications and recommendations for approval by sanctioning authorities.
  • Ensure all credit applications are assessed within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Evaluate credit requests in compliance with approved credit and provisioning policies.
  • Develop practical and suitable lending structures based on customer needs.
  • Work closely with Relationship Managers on both new and existing credit applications.
  • Provide guidance on credit appetite and risk considerations.
  • Liaise with Credit Teams where necessary.
  • Attend customer meetings alongside Relationship Managers to address credit-related issues.

2. Credit File Management and Documentation (15%)

Main Duties

  • Maintain customer credit monitoring files accurately.
  • Ensure all registers are updated and properly maintained.
  • File and store customer records in accordance with bank standards.
  • Maintain complete and organized credit documentation.

3. Portfolio Monitoring and Risk Management (35%)

Main Duties

  • Monitor the quality and performance of the SME credit portfolio.
  • Track compliance with conditions of sanction and identify trigger events.
  • Discuss deteriorating account performance with sanctioners and Relationship Managers.
  • Monitor daily risk reports and investigate exceptions or irregular activities.
  • Ensure excesses are diarized and reported appropriately.
  • Provide instructions and recommendations to Relationship Managers.
  • Escalate issues requiring intervention from other stakeholders.
  • Ensure all credit facilities are reviewed within required timelines.
  • Recommend remedial actions for underperforming accounts.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Educational Requirements

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Advanced Diploma, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in:
    • Finance
    • Accounting
    • Economics
    • Business Administration
    • Related fields

Preferred

  • ACIB Professional Qualification or equivalent.
  • Accreditation in Credit Lens.

Experience Requirements

Essential

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Credit Analyst or in a similar credit management role.
  • Experience gained within:
    • Commercial banks
    • Financial institutions
  • Demonstrated experience at junior management level.
