Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) aims to be the preferred provider of accessible specialized health services in Africa. Through its healthcare social enterprise and development programmes, CCBRT serves communities and vulnerable populations across Tanzania.
CCBRT is the largest local provider of disability and rehabilitation services in the country. The organization is committed to empowering people with disabilities and their families, improving their quality of life, and ensuring access to medical and rehabilitative treatment.
CCBRT also works extensively in Maternal and Newborn Health Care (MNHC), including obstetric fistula repair services. Its Maternity and Newborn Wing serves as a referral centre for high-risk and emergency deliveries in Dar es Salaam and the Eastern Zone of Tanzania.
To strengthen its Medical Training College and existing academic team, CCBRT is seeking a qualified and experienced candidate for the position of Deputy Principal – Academics and Research.
The Role
The Deputy Principal – Academics and Research will be responsible for establishing, managing, and maintaining high academic standards at the CCBRT Medical Training College. The role oversees curriculum development, academic coordination, quality assurance, faculty supervision, research activities, and stakeholder engagement to ensure excellence in teaching, learning, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Planning and Program Development
- Ensure implementation of academic programmes in line with national and international standards.
- Support accreditation processes with relevant regulatory bodies.
- Participate in the design, development, and expansion of health-related academic programmes.
Teaching and Learning Management
- Coordinate teaching schedules, course allocations, and academic calendars.
- Ensure effective delivery of lectures, clinical training, and practical sessions.
- Promote innovative teaching methods, including simulation-based learning and clinical exposure.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Monitor academic standards and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement internal quality assurance systems.
- Oversee examinations, assessments, and grading processes.
Faculty Support and Development
- Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and mentoring of academic staff.
- Organize Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programmes for lecturers.
- Conduct performance evaluations for teaching staff.
Student Academic Support
- Monitor student progress and academic performance.
- Address academic concerns, appeals, and disciplinary matters.
Clinical and Industry Collaboration
- Establish partnerships with primary hospitals and teaching institutions for student clinical placements.
- Ensure students receive adequate supervised clinical exposure.
Research and Innovation
- Encourage research activities among staff and students.
- Support the development of research policies, publications, and academic outputs.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Foster productive relationships with government agencies, development partners, industry stakeholders, alumni, and other partners.
- Represent the institution in administrative and operational matters as delegated by the Vice Chancellor.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Act on behalf of the Vice Chancellor when required.
- Prepare academic reports and institutional documentation.
- Participate in strategic planning and institutional development initiatives.
Candidate Requirements
Academic Qualifications
- Holder of a Master’s Degree or higher qualification in a health or medical-related field.
Professional Requirements
- Registered with a recognized professional body where applicable.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in teaching and academic leadership within a medical or health training institution.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of curriculum development and accreditation processes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proactive attitude and willingness to contribute to institutional growth.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
