VVOB is seeking a MEAL Advisor to join its Tanzania office and contribute to ensuring that every learner enjoys the fundamental right to quality education.
Position Summary
The MEAL Advisor plays a key role in the monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) functions of VVOB’s education programmes in Tanzania. The position is responsible for developing and coordinating MEAL systems that support effective planning, monitoring, evaluation, and learning while strengthening the monitoring and evaluation capacity of VVOB staff and partner organizations.
The position reports to the Country Programmes Manager and works closely with Education and Monitoring & Evaluation colleagues, Strategic Education Advisors, the HQ MEAL Advisor, government counterparts, and other external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the monitoring and evaluation of project objectives to ensure lessons learned are documented and applied to ongoing and future programmes.
- Coordinate and provide technical support to Programme Advisors, Coordinators, and project partners in planning and implementation.
- Strengthen the monitoring and evaluation capacity of partners based on project needs and implementation stages.
- Participate in internal and external MEAL-related working groups and task forces.
- Support data collection, research, and impact assessments for VVOB projects across Tanzania.
What Your Workweek May Include
As a MEAL Advisor, your responsibilities may include:
- Collaborating with education colleagues and government partners to review baseline assessment tools for school leadership training programmes.
- Discussing and refining monitoring indicators for new project proposals with Strategic Education Advisors.
- Organizing Monitoring and Evaluation capacity-building sessions for colleagues and government partners on digital data collection systems.
- Reviewing annual log frame reports and planning follow-up discussions with programme teams.
- Collecting and documenting change stories and project impact from schools and education stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- A Master’s degree in Statistics, Education, Social Sciences, or another relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience working in international development cooperation, particularly in Monitoring and Evaluation.
- Demonstrated experience developing indicators, applying MEAL tools, implementing monitoring systems, data collection methodologies, and data analysis.
- Research experience, preferably within the education sector.
- Fluency in both English and Swahili.
