Software Engineer
Job summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Software Engineer with strong Linux expertise to design, develop, deploy, and maintain software applications and supporting infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing software in Linux environments, troubleshooting operating systems, automating system tasks, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and services.
- Develop and optimize applications for Linux-based environments.
- Install, configure, administer, and troubleshoot Linux servers.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following software engineering best practices.
- Develop shell scripts and automation tools to improve operational efficiency.
- Monitor application performance and resolve software and system issues.
- Collaborate with DevOps, Quality Assurance (QA), and Infrastructure teams to ensure reliable deployments.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage source code using Git and participate in Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) processes.
- Implement security best practices for Linux systems and applications.
- Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely resolutions.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend improvements where appropriate.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least three years of professional software development experience.
- Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems, including Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS, Rocky Linux, or similar systems.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages, such as:
- Python
- Java
- C++
- Go
- C#
- Experience with Bash or shell scripting.
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Experience using Git for version control.
- Familiarity with REST APIs and web services.
- Experience working with relational databases, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
- Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
- Knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, SSH, and firewalls.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or Nagios.
- Linux certifications, such as RHCSA, RHCE, LPIC, or CompTIA Linux+, will be an added advantage.
