Job Purpose

To provide expert legal support by drafting, reviewing, and advising on credit-related legal matters while delivering strategic legal guidance that minimizes risks and protects the Bank’s interests.

Key Responsibilities

Draft, prepare, and review security documents and lending contracts.
Coordinate registration and perfection of security documents with relevant authorities.
Maintain accurate records and tracking systems for registered securities.
Provide legal opinions to business units, branches, and internal credit committees.
Support the Legal Manager/Senior Manager in high-value transactions and regulatory compliance.
Advise on legal risks and recommend mitigation strategies in lending transactions.
Verify receipt of security documents submitted for safe custody.
Ensure proper filing, safe custody, and retrieval of security documents.
Liaise with branches, external legal counsel, and government authorities to resolve registration issues.
Respond promptly to legal queries from internal stakeholders.
Provide updates on the legal status of security documentation.
Facilitate discharge of securities after loan settlement and manage transfers under power of sale.
Prepare periodic and ad hoc reports on documentation, compliance, and legal risks.
Support internal audits and regulatory inspections.
Draft court pleadings and represent the Bank before courts and tribunals.
Keep updated on legal and regulatory developments affecting banking operations.
Perform additional duties assigned by the Head of Legal or Directorate.

Ability to draft and review lending-related legal documents.

Ability to provide practical legal advice on lending and security matters.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

Bachelor of Laws (LL.B)
Enrollment as an Advocate

Added Advantage

Master’s Degree in Law or Business Studies.

Experience

Minimum 3 years of experience in a dynamic commercial legal environment.
