Position Overview
Barrick Africa Middle East is seeking an experienced Jumbo Operator to join its underground mining team. The successful candidate will operate underground jumbo drilling equipment, perform ground support activities, maintain safety standards, and contribute to efficient mine development operations.
The ideal candidate should have strong underground mining experience, technical knowledge of jumbo rigs, and the ability to work independently while supporting team objectives.

Key Responsibilities
- Mark up underground faces according to:
- Geological requirements
- Statutory requirements
- Survey specifications
- Install ground support systems and drill:
- Cable bolt holes
- Declines
- Other underground development holes
- Work independently to complete technical activities safely, accurately, and on time.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, including:
- Safety requirements
- Environmental policies
- Confidentiality standards
- Conduct inspections, record results, and maintain accurate operational reports.
- Prepare technical communication materials, manuals, and documentation.
- Resolve complex technical issues using company procedures and guidelines.
- Prioritize and schedule assigned work activities.
- Inspect and replace company tools when required.
- Provide coaching and informal training to less experienced team members.
- Support continuous improvement of underground mining operations.
Qualification Requirements
Applicants should have:
- College or technical training equivalent to 2 years of study.
- Ability to read and interpret ground support designs and plans.
- Basic electrical and mechanical knowledge of jumbo drilling equipment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong teamwork and result-oriented mindset.
- Awareness of Mine Health & Safety Act requirements.
Experience & Technical Competencies
Required experience:
- 8–10 years of experience as a Jumbo Trainer/Operator, preferably under expatriate working conditions.
- Strong experience operating Tamrock 2009 Axera Twin Boom Jumbos.
- Proven underground mining experience.
- Previous supervisory or training experience is an advantage.
- Good understanding of:
- Underground mining operations
- Mine safety practices
- Ground support activities
