Position Overview
Barrick Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking an experienced UG Electrician Foreman to lead underground electrical operations. The role involves planning, supervising, maintaining, and improving electrical systems, machinery, and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective mine operations.
The successful candidate will ensure compliance with BGML Mining Safety Standards, engineering procedures, and industry best practices while supporting production targets.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Operations & Maintenance
- Manage and control surface and underground electrical reticulation networks.
- Conduct statutory inspections, audits, and electrical compliance testing.
- Prepare reports and presentations on power consumption and supply.
- Plan and manage Life of Mine (LOM) electrical supply and demand requirements.
- Perform earth fault calculations and ensure HV/MV protection relays are correctly configured.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and test:
- AC/DC variable speed drives
- Variable frequency drives
- Soft starters
- Ensure availability of critical electrical spare parts to prevent production losses.
Engineering & Project Support
- Design, plan, install, and commission electrical systems suitable for challenging mining environments.
- Provide technical troubleshooting support to improve operational efficiency.
- Lead maintenance teams through:
- Computerized maintenance planning
- Predictive maintenance systems
- Engineering modelling tools
- Implement modern electrical processes and safety practices.
- Manage contractor activities including:
- Tender preparation
- Technical bid evaluation
- Contractor supervision
- Variation negotiations
- Quality assurance
- Work acceptance
- Lead projects to ensure completion:
- On schedule
- Within budget
- According to international quality standards
Technical Duties
The role requires ability to:
- Interpret electrical and engineering drawings.
- Perform electrical and electronic measurements.
- Conduct tests on high-voltage electrical machines.
- Carry out electrical component soldering and de-soldering.
- Diagnose and maintain electronic control systems on mobile equipment.
- Install and test electrical wiring and circuits up to:
- 1000V AC
- 1500V DC
- Disconnect and reconnect fixed wired equipment up to:
- 1000V AC
- 1500V DC
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment and components.
- Test, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation systems.
Qualification Requirements
Applicants should have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent post-trade qualifications.
Additional advantage:
- Experience using:
- AutoCAD Electrical
- SAP Plant Maintenance software
- African expatriate mining experience.
Experience & Skills Requirements
Required experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience in:
- High voltage engineering design or execution.
- Electrical machine design and maintenance.
- Electrical control systems.
- SCADA and PLC systems.
- Power distribution systems including:
- Transformers
- Main Distribution Boards (MDBs)
- Motor Control Centres (MCCs)
- Experience developing project schedules using:
- MS Project
- Equivalent project planning tools
- Experience managing large-scale engineering projects.
- Mining industry experience is an added advantage.
