Exim Bank Tanzania is seeking a qualified and experienced professional for the position of Relationship Manager – Chinese Desk within its Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) Department.

Location: Dar es Salaam

Reports To: Senior Manager, Trade Finance & Financial Institutions
Responsible For: Managing Chinese-owned customer relationships at 360°

Working Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday (additional hours as required)

Job Purpose

The Relationship Manager – Chinese Desk will drive business growth and manage relationships with Chinese-owned businesses operating in Tanzania. The role focuses on acquiring new customers, strengthening existing relationships, and providing tailored banking solutions to support growth in deposits, lending, trade finance, foreign exchange, and other banking services.

The successful candidate will serve as the primary contact for Chinese customers by leveraging language proficiency, cultural understanding, and relationship management expertise to deliver exceptional customer service and support the Bank’s growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Relationship Management

  • Acquire new Chinese-owned corporate and SME clients in line with the Bank’s growth strategy.
  • Grow existing customer relationships by identifying opportunities in deposits, lending, trade finance, FX, cash management, and other banking solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Chinese business owners, investors, suppliers, contractors, and key stakeholders.
  • Develop customer relationship plans and business development strategies for the Chinese Desk portfolio.
  • Conduct regular customer visits and business engagements to identify new opportunities.

Customer Service & Portfolio Management

  • Act as the main relationship contact for Chinese customers and ensure excellent customer experience.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to ensure timely delivery of banking products and services.
  • Address customer concerns and service requests professionally and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate customer records, engagement reports, and opportunity tracking.
  • Utilize customer relationship management systems to support acquisition, retention, and portfolio growth.

Credit & Risk Management

  • Review customer applications and documentation for completeness and compliance.
  • Prepare quality credit proposals in line with Bank policies and procedures.
  • Monitor customer accounts, facilities, and portfolio performance.
  • Ensure timely documentation, disbursement, and compliance with approved facility terms.
  • Maintain compliance with KYC, AML, regulatory requirements, and internal procedures.

Market Intelligence & Strategy

  • Monitor trends, opportunities, and regulatory developments affecting Chinese businesses in Tanzania.
  • Provide market insights to management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Support cross-selling initiatives by identifying customer needs and recommending appropriate banking solutions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Commerce, Economics, Management, or a related field.
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is an added advantage.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in banking, corporate banking, relationship management, business development, or related financial services roles.
  • Experience managing corporate or SME relationships is an added advantage.
  • Experience working with or supporting Chinese-owned businesses is highly desirable.
  • Fluency in both English and Chinese languages (written and spoken) is mandatory.

Required Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of corporate banking operations and relationship management.
  • Understanding of banking products including lending, deposits, foreign exchange, cash management, and trade finance.
  • Strong business development, negotiation, and client engagement skills.
  • Good understanding of Chinese business culture and relationship practices.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and report-writing skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple client relationships and meet business targets.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
