Job Purpose

The Control and Protection Engineer will provide technical leadership in the design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of electrical control and protection systems. The role focuses on ensuring reliable operation of substations, protection systems, and automation interfaces while maintaining compliance with international standards and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of control and protection systems.
• Develop protection philosophies, relay settings, and coordination studies.
• Supervise installation and commissioning of substations, protection panels, and SCADA interfaces.
• Investigate system faults and analyze disturbance records to improve system reliability.
• Review and approve technical designs, relay settings, and commissioning reports.
• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, utility standards, and project specifications.
• Provide technical guidance and coordinate with SCADA, telecommunications, and commissioning teams.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong expertise in HV/MV substation control and protection systems.
• Proficiency in protection relays, relay coordination, and power system analysis software.
• Knowledge of IEC 61850, SCADA integration, and substation automation systems.
• Strong project management and technical supervision skills.
• Understanding of testing, commissioning, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and stakeholder communication skills.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
• Master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
• Must be a Registered Professional Engineer with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) and hold a valid practicing licence.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in control, protection, testing, and commissioning of electrical power systems.
