About the Position

Northern Engineering Works Limited (NEWL) is seeking qualified Field Engineers to join its Operations team for the Spark Project. The role involves verifying, calibrating, and documenting diesel generator (DG) fuel tanks across telecom passive network sites while ensuring compliance with company standards and Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) requirements.

Successful candidates will also perform standardized preventive and corrective maintenance, including generator servicing, in accordance with the agreed Service Level Agreement (SLA).

Project Purpose

The project aims to:

• Verify the physical condition of diesel generator (DG) fuel tanks.
• Confirm fuel tank dimensions and capacities.
• Perform fuel tank verification and calibration.
• Develop accurate calibration charts and records.
• Ensure all site information complies with HTT standards.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Fuel Tank Verification & Calibration

• Conduct physical verification of DG fuel tanks at assigned telecom sites.
• Measure and confirm actual tank dimensions and fuel capacities.
• Perform fuel tank calibration according to approved standards and procedures.
• Develop and validate calibration charts and tables.
• Verify fuel level accuracy using calibration charts.

Inspection & Site Assessment

• Inspect DG fuel systems for:
  • Leaks
  • Corrosion
  • Damage
  • Other abnormalities
• Record accurate site information, including:
  • DG serial numbers
  • Tank type
  • Tank configuration
• Capture clear geotagged photographs before and after calibration activities.

Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare and submit complete calibration reports within required timelines.
• Report discrepancies between actual and recorded tank capacities.
• Maintain high standards of data accuracy and integrity.
• Escalate technical issues and project risks to the Line Manager.

Operational Support

• Coordinate with:
  • Operations Team
  • Network Operations Centre (NOC)
  • Site owners
• Safeguard calibration equipment and ensure proper handling.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on telecom power infrastructure.

SHEQ Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Comply with all SHEQ requirements.
• Report all:
  • Near misses
  • Hazards
  • SHEQ non-conformities
• Report at least:
  • Five (5) near misses every month.
  • One (1) hazard every month.
• Conduct Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA) before planned work.
• Report accidents or property damage within 24 hours.
• Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Complete Journey Management Plans for trips exceeding:
  • 150 km
  • 3 hours driving time
• Ensure proper waste disposal.
• Conduct daily vehicle inspections.
• Attend mandatory OSHA medical examinations.
• Cooperate with SHEQ investigations involving workplace incidents.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in:
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Related technical discipline
• Minimum 3 years of experience in telecom passive infrastructure operations.
• Practical experience with:
  • Diesel generators
  • Fuel systems
  • Site maintenance
• Good knowledge of telecom passive infrastructure, including:
  • Diesel Generators (DG)
  • Rectifiers
  • Batteries
  • Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
  • Power systems
