Position Overview

JTI is seeking a Tobacco Processing Operator responsible for operating tobacco processing machinery, ensuring product quality, maintaining equipment condition, and maintaining a safe and clean production environment.

The role requires technical knowledge of tobacco processing operations, machinery handling, and the ability to operate production equipment including forklifts in a limited-space manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation & Production

• Operate tobacco processing equipment including:
  • Lamina in-feed line
  • CFT bin filling station
  • CFT maker feeders
  • Blending Line
  • CRES Line
  • Lamina Line
  • C48 filling station
• Operate forklifts for shop-floor material handling.
• Ensure production meets required quality standards.
• Follow standard operating procedures and supervisor instructions.

Equipment Cleaning & Maintenance Support

• Inspect and clean tobacco processing lines before production starts.
• Perform cleaning procedures when changing between tobacco blends.
• Conduct end-of-day equipment cleaning according to machine cleaning procedures.
• Maintain machinery in good operating condition.
• Report equipment issues promptly.

Safety & Housekeeping

• Maintain a safe working environment.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ensure safe machine operation during production and cleaning activities.
• Maintain workplace cleanliness and proper arrangement of tools.
• Follow workplace safety procedures.

Team Communication

• Communicate effectively with:
  • Tobacco Processing Lead
  • Production team members
  • Other work centers
• Support smooth production flow between upstream and downstream operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• University Degree in:
  • Engineering
  • Equivalent technical field

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a tobacco processing environment.

Required Skills & Knowledge

• Understanding of:
  • English
  • Kiswahili
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Ability to operate:
  • Lamina Conditioning work centers
  • Casing work centers
  • Stem conditioning work centers
• Forklift operating skills are required.
• Knowledge of tobacco processing machinery is an advantage.
