Barrick Africa Middle East is seeking a qualified and experienced Long Hole Driller to join its mining operations team.

Key Responsibilities
The Long Hole Driller will be responsible for:
Safety & Compliance
- Complying with Barrick’s health and safety policies, procedures, practices, and Occupational Health and Safety Acts.
- Demonstrating safety leadership by leading through example.
- Ensuring a safe working environment for employees, colleagues, and surrounding communities.
- Reporting and correcting unsafe acts and conditions.
- Understanding fatal risks and maintaining critical controls.
Drilling Operations
- Operate the long-hole drilling platform for mine stoping safely and efficiently.
- Perform solo operations including:
- Equipment setup.
- Drilling.
- Tramming.
- Shutdown procedures.
- End-of-shift reporting.
- Interpret drill designs, ring patterns, and hole plans.
- Adjust drilling parameters according to ground conditions.
- Complete pre-start inspections and routine equipment checks.
- Identify mechanical and performance issues.
- Achieve production targets while maintaining drilling accuracy and hole quality.
- Prevent over-drilling and under-drilling by following operational standards, development plans, and geotechnical requirements.
- Follow geological, regulatory, and surveying specifications.
- Install mining services when required.
- Work with technical and supervisory teams to maintain quality and safety standards.
- Update end-of-shift reports.
- Follow instructions from the Shift Boss according to daily work assignments.
Qualifications Requirements
Applicants must have:
- High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Drilling Machinery Competency Certification.
Experience & Skills Required
Candidates should have:
- Proven experience operating:
- Sandvik DL422i
- Similar long-hole production drills
- DL421 / DL431 drills (considered an advantage)
- Minimum 5 years’ underground hard-rock mining experience.
- Demonstrated experience in long-hole production drilling.
- Knowledge of:
- i-Series drill control systems.
- Automation features.
- Digital drill plans.
- Strong commitment to:
- Safety compliance.
- Hazard identification.
- Following procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with:
- Supervisors.
- Engineers.
- Survey teams.
- Maintenance teams.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Resilience, flexibility, and ability to manage multiple tasks in emergency situations.
- Ability to perform effectively in a high-pressure mining environment.
