Job Purpose

The Engineer 1 – Open Pit Planning will provide day-to-day technical support to the production team to ensure compliance with approved mining plans.

The role will also monitor pit, waste dump, and other construction designs, coordinate with mining and project execution teams, and prepare weekly plans, production reports, and Bench Operating Plans.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow safe working procedures and proactively address operational safety matters.
• Prepare weekly pit plans, Bench Operating Plans, and Daily Dig Plans in line with monthly plans and required standards.
• Check achievement of NAF and PAF boundaries.
• Monitor compliance with approved pit and stockpile designs.
• Use Vulcan or Datamine for short-term planning, design checks, planning changes, and production analysis.
• Coordinate planning inputs from geology, mining production, geotechnical, and engineering teams.
• Monitor broken stock levels, equipment productivity, utilization, and selected operational costs.
• Provide timely feedback on operational risks and opportunities.
• Provide technical support to production teams to ensure mining activities remain aligned with approved plans.

Education and Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering.
• Registered as a Graduate Mining Engineer by the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).
• Valid Tanzania Driving Licence.

Required Experience

• At least 3 years of relevant experience in the mining industry, preferably in open-pit operations.
• At least 1 year of training exposure across other mine sections, including:
  • Geology
  • Survey
  • Long-term planning
  • Production
  • Drill and blast
• Experience in short-term planning within a mechanized open-pit mining environment.

Knowledge and Skills

• Experience using mining software such as:
  • Vulcan
  • Datamine
  • SPRY
  • Rapid Reserver
  • or similar mining software.
• Experience using spreadsheets and database software.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work effectively with technical teams, operational departments, and contractors.
• Ability to provide on-site technical support and respond when mining execution does not align with approved plans.
