Job Overview
JTI is seeking 3 Agronomy Technician Trainees to join a one-year trainee programme focused on providing agricultural extension services and technical support to tobacco farmers.
The trainees will regularly visit farmers, monitor crop performance, promote recommended agronomic practices, collect field data, and support the production of quality tobacco in accordance with JTI’s agricultural standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor crop performance and farmers’ compliance with recommended agronomic practices.
- Identify field challenges and provide timely technical support or escalate issues when necessary.
- Implement agroforestry, barn and furnace initiatives according to approved plans.
- Collect accurate field data and upload it into relevant systems.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports covering farmers under their responsibility.
- Establish the required grower base within the allocated area.
- Support adoption of energy-efficient technologies and practices that reduce environmental impact.
- Support initiatives aimed at eliminating child labour and improving the well-being of growers and communities.
- Follow Information Management System (IMS) standards and internal controls.
- Monitor compliance with crop calendar requirements and ensure timely implementation of crop production activities.
- Promote regenerative agriculture practices that improve soil health, water-use efficiency, biodiversity and climate resilience.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should have:
- A university degree in Agriculture, Extension Services or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Good written and spoken Swahili.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to ride a motorcycle.
- A valid motorcycle driving licence.
Added advantage: Practical field experience or internship experience in the tobacco industry.
