Job Purpose

The Senior Relationship Manager will be responsible for managing a portfolio of Large Local Corporates (LLC) and Regional Corporates (RC) banking customers.

The role focuses on:

  • Managing and growing corporate banking relationships.
  • Driving business development and increasing customer wallet share.
  • Maximizing risk-adjusted portfolio contribution.
  • Identifying new business and cross-selling banking products.
  • Managing credit and portfolio risks.
  • Building long-term relationships with senior corporate executives.
  • Supporting and coaching members of the Corporate Banking team.
  • Ensuring high-quality customer service and operational delivery.
  • Representing Absa within the local corporate business community.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sales & Customer Service – 40%

  • Grow portfolio profitability through new and existing customer opportunities.
  • Develop and implement business development strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for new product sales and customer expansion.
  • Conduct annual and interim reviews of borrowing and non-borrowing customers.
  • Identify appropriate products and solutions to meet corporate customer needs.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction, complaints and service quality.
  • Research market trends, competitors and emerging business opportunities.
  • Communicate product changes, pricing, service standards and relationship management updates to customers.
  • Build strong, sustainable relationships with large corporate clients.

2. Business Management – 30%

  • Manage portfolio performance against financial, risk, sales and service targets.
  • Develop and maintain Customer Relationship Plans.
  • Identify priority and high-potential customers.
  • Develop and maintain a target list for new business opportunities.
  • Monitor portfolio quality and compliance with risk management policies.
  • Advise customers on financial, credit and general business matters.
  • Work closely with the Head – Large Corporate to achieve business objectives.
  • Support the Head – Large Corporate and provide leadership when required.
  • Drive implementation of changes affecting the Corporate Banking portfolio.

3. Staff Management & Leadership – 30%

  • Act as a key member of the Corporate Banking leadership team.
  • Coach and develop Relationship Managers and Customer Management Assistants.
  • Support team members in identifying strengths, weaknesses and development needs.
  • Coach staff on relationship management, service quality and risk management.
  • Support performance management and Performance Development Reviews.
  • Promote teamwork and achievement of corporate banking targets.
  • Provide leadership and guidance within the Corporate Banking team.
