About the European Union Delegation to Tanzania
The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership of 27 European countries. Through its diplomatic representations, the EU works internationally in areas including diplomacy, trade, development cooperation, and relations with governments and international organizations.
The EU Delegation to the United Republic of Tanzania and to the East African Community, based in Dar es Salaam, is a fully-fledged diplomatic mission representing the EU in Tanzania.
Job Details
Position: Accounts Clerk
Organization: European Union Delegation to Tanzania (EUD)
Section: Administration
Contract: Fixed-term, 2 years
Probation: 9 months
Expected Start Date: 16 October 2026
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Salary: Starting from TZS 3,573,768, depending on relevant and verified experience

Key Responsibilities
1. Accounts Management
- Receive and verify incoming invoices and payment requests against supporting documents such as contracts, purchase orders, and internal documents.
- Register invoices, internal documents, and credit notes in the SUMMA financial system.
- Ensure payments are processed within applicable deadlines and in accordance with EU Financial Regulations.
- Execute payments through local bank accounts and follow up on outstanding or unsuccessful transactions.
- Maintain contractor and staff financial information in the financial system.
- Encode requests, commitments, and de-commitments in relevant budgeting, accounting, and mission management systems.
- Manage petty cash accounts.
2. Budget Monitoring and Reporting
- Monitor, adjust, and verify authorized budget execution in compliance with financial regulations.
- Assist with preparation and monitoring of annual and interim administrative budgets.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations, closure documents, and financial reports.
- Prepare documentation for ex-post financial control requests.
3. Administrative Support
- Calculate mission cost estimates and assist with verification and processing of mission claims and representation expenses.
- Assist with procurement procedures and contract management.
- Prepare purchase orders and order forms and upload contracts into the relevant platform.
- Monitor contract expenditure and consumption.
- Assist with monthly payroll preparation for local employees, including overtime and salary arrears calculations.
- Assist with managing rights and obligations of expatriate staff.
- Perform other administrative duties assigned by the Head of Administration or Head of Delegation.
Working Conditions
The position involves:
- 37.5 hours per week.
- Occasional overtime, including evenings and weekends.
- Occasional work-related travel.
- Office-based work without unusual physical requirements.
Required Skills
Candidates should have:
- Good command of English, at least CEFR B1 level.
- Basic knowledge of EU Financial Regulations and relevant accounting and financial policies.
- Knowledge of corporate financial systems used for accounting, budgeting, and financial processing.
- Ability to identify discrepancies and operational problems.
- Ability to interpret and work with quantitative information.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in standard office IT tools and the ability to learn new corporate applications.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A post-secondary qualification in Accounting, Audit, Finance, or an equivalent field.
- At least 3 years of relevant professional experience after obtaining the degree, particularly in accounting, audit, finance, or related areas.
- Good command of English, minimum CEFR B1.
- The legal right to reside and work in Tanzania.
- Medical fitness to perform the duties of the position.
Additional Qualifications / Assets
The following will be considered an advantage:
- Experience working in a diplomatic mission, development agency, or international organization.
- Experience with EU tools, policies, and procedures.
- A Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Knowledge of another EU language, such as French, Spanish, German, or Italian.
Selection Process

- Final selection of at least two leading candidates.
