Job Summary
NCBA Bank is looking for a Business Development Officer – Travel Channel to drive profitable growth in travel insurance through travel agencies, tour operators, airlines, online travel platforms, visa and education consultants, corporate travel accounts, brokers, agents, bancassurance and other approved partners.
The role focuses on partner acquisition and management, sales growth, pipeline development, customer service, policy administration, claims support, compliance and performance analysis.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sales & Business Growth – 40%
- Deliver premium, policy-count and profitability targets.
- Build and manage a qualified pipeline of travel-sector partners.
- Drive quotation-to-policy conversion, renewals and cross-selling.
- Monitor sales, loss ratios and campaign performance.
- Maintain accurate forecasts, CRM records and monthly reports.
2. Partner Development – 30%
- Identify, onboard and activate priority travel partners.
- Manage relationships through regular visits, business reviews and follow-ups.
- Train partner staff on travel insurance products and sales processes.
- Develop seasonal campaigns and identify market opportunities.
- Monitor partner productivity, retention and campaign performance.
3. Customer & Service Excellence – 15%
- Coordinate quotations, policy issuance, amendments, cancellations and documentation.
- Handle partner and customer enquiries and coordinate their resolution.
- Monitor service turnaround times and complaints.
- Support customers with claims notification and urgent travel assistance.
- Explain benefits, exclusions, limits and claims procedures clearly.
4. Risk, Governance & Compliance – 10%
- Ensure sales are conducted through approved partners and arrangements.
- Maintain proper customer disclosures and documentation.
- Support data protection and customer-needs assessment requirements.
- Maintain audit-ready partner records, agreements and training evidence.
- Escalate underwriting, claims, compliance and conduct issues appropriately.
5. Learning & Development – 5%
- Develop knowledge of travel insurance, consultative selling and partner management.
- Use CRM and analytics tools to improve performance.
- Complete mandatory training.
- Share market intelligence and lessons learned with relevant teams.
Key Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Business, Marketing, Tourism, Travel Management or a related field.
- A professional insurance qualification such as CII, ACII or AIIK is mandatory.
Experience
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in insurance or financial services.
- At least 3 years in business development, account management or channel sales.
- Proven experience developing partnerships and achieving measurable business growth.
- Experience with travel insurance, tourism, airlines, travel trade, student travel or digital distribution is an advantage.
Skills & Knowledge
- Good understanding of general and travel insurance.
- Knowledge of insurance benefits, exclusions, policy wording and claims procedures.
- Strong business development and relationship-management skills.
- Proficiency in CRM, Microsoft Office and data-analysis/reporting tools.
- Strong sales, negotiation, communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively with Underwriting, Claims, Operations, Finance, Risk, Compliance and external partners.
