Job Summary

NCBA Bank is seeking a Credit Control Manager to lead the Credit Control function, with responsibility for premium collections, debtor management, account reconciliation, credit assessment and credit-risk mitigation.

The role focuses on protecting cash flow, reducing bad-debt exposure, ensuring compliance with credit-control policies and strengthening collection processes across clients, brokers, intermediaries and other business partners.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial & Credit Control – 45%

  • Develop and implement credit-control and collection strategies.
  • Oversee premium invoicing, collections, payment allocation and reconciliation.
  • Assess the creditworthiness of brokers, corporate clients, policyholders and other producers.
  • Monitor debtor ageing, overdue premiums, disputed balances, bounced payments and recoveries.
  • Prepare receivables dashboards, ageing reports, collection reports and exception reports.
  • Recommend appropriate credit terms, limits, payment plans or suspension actions.

2. Operational Risk Management – 20%

  • Identify and report credit, process and operational risks.
  • Strengthen controls around credit vetting, onboarding, dunning, refunds, write-offs and payment plans.
  • Manage debt-recovery procedures and escalation of long-outstanding accounts.
  • Engage legal/recovery partners when necessary.
  • Identify process improvements and automation opportunities.

3. Audit & Compliance – 20%

  • Ensure compliance with Credit Control Policy and premium-collection procedures.
  • Support internal, external and regulatory audits.
  • Maintain accurate reconciliations, ageing schedules and credit-control records.
  • Support regulatory reporting on premium collections and outstanding debts.
  • Track and close audit, risk and compliance findings.

4. People & Stakeholder Management – 10%

  • Set objectives, KPIs and work plans for the credit-control team.
  • Coach staff on collections, reconciliation, credit assessment and reporting.
  • Monitor team productivity and quality of account follow-up.
  • Work with brokers, agents, clients, Finance, Underwriting, Claims, Sales and Operations.
  • Resolve overdue balances, disputes and reconciliation issues.

5. Learning & Development – 5%

  • Maintain a professional development plan.
  • Complete required training and learning activities.
  • Coach team members to improve performance and productivity.

Qualifications

Academic

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce or a related field.

Professional

  • CPA(K), ACCA or an equivalent credit/finance qualification is required/preferred.
  • Membership in ICPAK, ACCA or another relevant professional body is an added advantage.
  • Insurance qualifications such as AIIK, CII or Certificate of Proficiency are an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in:
    • Credit control
    • Accounts receivable
    • Collections
    • Credit management
  • Experience in general insurance or regulated financial services is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing a credit-control or receivables team.
  • Experience with:
    • Broker/intermediary collections
    • Debtor ageing
    • Account reconciliation
    • Credit assessments
    • IFRS 9 provisioning
    • Debt recovery
    • Stakeholder escalations
