Job Title: Assistant Accountant

Job Description

The Assistant Accountant will support the finance department in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring tax compliance, processing payments, and preparing financial reports. The role also involves supporting operational teams to ensure financial accuracy in loan-related transactions and assisting with audits and budgeting activities.


Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Record-Keeping

  • Record daily financial transactions related to loan disbursements, repayments, and operating expenses.
  • Maintain accurate accounting ledgers and perform regular account reconciliations.
  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

2. Tax & Compliance

  • Prepare and file statutory tax returns including:
    • PAYE
    • SDL
    • Withholding Tax
    • Corporate Tax
  • Ensure compliance with Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) regulations.
  • Monitor tax submission deadlines and maintain proper documentation.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by providing required tax and financial records.

3. Payments & Invoicing

  • Process supplier invoices and staff expense claims.
  • Manage payment schedules for vendors and service providers.
  • Support payroll processing, ensuring accurate statutory deductions such as:
    • PAYE
    • NSSF
    • WCF

4. Reporting & Financial Analysis

  • Assist in preparing management reports for Eleving Group (Mogo’s parent company).
  • Provide financial data to support:
    • Budgeting
    • Forecasting
    • Variance analysis
  • Monitor loan portfolio performance and highlight any irregularities.

5. Operational Support

  • Collaborate with internal teams including:
    • Sales
    • Customer Service
    • Collections
  • Ensure financial accuracy in loan transactions.
  • Maintain proper filing and documentation of financial records for easy retrieval.
  • Assist with the implementation and use of accounting software and digital finance tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Accounting
    • Finance
    • Or a related field.
  • CPA certification will be an added advantage.
  • Prior internship or work experience in accounting or finance is preferred.

Technical Requirements

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and Tanzanian financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Experience with accounting software, such as:
    • SAP ByDesign
    • QuickBooks
    • Other accounting systems.
