Job Title: Assistant Field Technician
Reporting Line Manager: Field Supervisor
Department: Operations

Northern Engineering Works Ltd (NEWL) is seeking to recruit Assistant Field Technicians to join the Operations Team. Successful candidates will carry out standardized Site Preventive and Corrective Maintenance and Generator Service as per the agreed Service Level Agreement (SLA).


Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Adhere to standard day requirements
  • Attend daily cluster meetings and any other meetings as required
  • Follow site access procedures
  • Execute site preventive maintenance as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Proper maintenance of client and NEWL assets
  • Ensure 100% DC power availability on assigned sites
  • Attend callouts within ETR time
  • Ensure all assigned sites are visible at NOC
  • Ensure all assigned Site Work Orders (SWO) are closed within SLA time
  • Ensure all alarms are properly terminated and configured at sites
  • Ensure DGs are maintained as per manufacturer’s recommendations
  • Ensure air conditioner units are maintained as per SLA
  • Ensure high data integrity on Service Now
  • Conduct site earth measurements
  • Attend scheduled trainings
  • Maintain assigned portable DG
  • Ensure portable rectifier is properly kept at GMT
  • Submit detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for corrective maintenance tasks
  • Maintain sites and company assets with a high level of integrity
  • Maintain strong partnerships with clients
  • Ensure site fire extinguishers are maintained as per SLA
  • Ensure all RMS are communicating
  • Ensure Fuel Delivery Work Orders (FDWOs) and Luku are closed as per SLA
  • Ensure preventive maintenance activities are completed as per plan
  • Ensure SLA spares and consignment stock are properly managed
  • Ensure GMT store is well maintained
  • Request daily replenishment of SLA spares to maintain maximum stock levels
  • Train and mentor field trainees
  • Timely request for skill set uplifting
  • Perform any other duties assigned and deemed necessary for successful job delivery

SHEQ

  • Ensure SHEQ compliance on all projects
  • Report identified near misses, hazards, and SHEQ non-conformities to the NEWL SHEQ Manager
  • Report at least one (1) near miss and one (1) hazard each month
  • Ensure no planned work is undertaken without Field Level Risk Assessment preparation and communication
  • Report any incident or property damage within 24 hours
  • Use proper PPEs at all times
  • Ensure Journey Management Plan (JMP) is completed when driving more than 150 km or 3 hours
  • Ensure proper waste disposal
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections
  • Attend mandatory OSHA examinations
  • Cooperate with the SHEQ team during occupational incident and accident reporting and investigations when required

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • EWURA registered
  • ERB registered

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Excel and project management reporting tools
  • Proactive, innovative, and detail-oriented
  • Assertive and self-reliant in managing assigned tasks
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Familiarity with installation procedures for power infrastructure and reticulation at BTS sites
  • Computer literate with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments within prescribed instructions and standard practices
