Vacancy Announcement: Assistant, Fixed-term (2 years)
The Embassy of Finland in Dar es Salaam is seeking a motivated and skilled colleague to join our team as Assistant to the Ambassador of Finland in Tanzania. Preferred starting date is 16 March 2026. Application deadline is 31 January 2026.
The successful candidate will provide high‑quality executive and administrative support to the Ambassador and the Embassy team, contributing to the smooth and efficient day‑to‑day running of the mission.
We are looking for a proactive, service‑minded professional with excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with discretion. The core responsibilities may be adjusted over time to reflect the operational needs of the Embassy.

Contract duration: Fixed-term (2 years)
Main tasks and responsibilities
Providing executive and secretarial assistance to the Head of Mission (Ambassador) and the Embassy team. These may include, for example, the following:
- Coordinating travel arrangements and related administration
- Drafting and processing official correspondence and invitations
- Supporting small-scale procurement and office administration
- Overseeing practicalities related to the Ambassador’s Residence, including arranging maintenance works.
- Maintaining the Embassy’s contact lists and databases
- Liaising with stakeholders, partners and service providers
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Ambassador.
Required qualifications and competencies
Language skills:
- English: Excellent written and spoken proficiency (mandatory).
- Finnish: Strong professional proficiency is highly desirable.
- Swahili: Working proficiency is an asset and will be considered an advantage.
Education & Experience
- Relevant higher/post‑secondary education for administrative/executive support and/or demonstrated experience in comparable roles.
- Experience working in an embassy or international organisation (asset).
- Experience living or working in Finland, and prior employment with Finnish organisations, will each be considered an asset.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent organisational skills; accuracy and attention to detail; proven ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities.
- Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills; customer‑service orientation.
- High level of discretion and professionalism in handling confidential information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
Personal Qualities
- Proactive, trustworthy, and flexible team player with a strong work ethic.
- Able to work independently with integrity and sound judgement.
- Calm, solutions‑oriented approach in a busy environment.
Terms of employment / benefits
The position is locally recruited. Employment will be governed by Tanzanian labour legislation, and the contract will comply with all applicable local laws and regulations.
The position is office-based at the Embassy in Dar es Salaam, and remote work is not available for this role. Please note that the Embassy does not cover travel, relocation or housing expenses associated with taking up this position.
Contract duration: Fixed-term (2 years), preferred starting date 16 March 2026
Probation period: 4 months
Working time: 40 hours per week with fixed working hours
Benefits: Medical insurance and an annual recreational allowance
Salary: Gross monthly salary range: TZS 4,000,000 – TZS 6,000,000 (before taxes and deductions). Final offer depends on experience and qualifications.
