Job Purpose

The Assistant Manager – Trade Finance provides specialized technical expertise in Trade Finance product sales and portfolio management for the MSME segment. The role supports Relationship Managers at Branch and Head Office levels to grow trade finance business, increase wallet share, and ensure high-quality customer service in line with agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

The position also carries responsibility for product performance, reporting, and profitability (P&L) within the assigned MSME trade finance portfolio.


Key Roles & Responsibilities

Sales & Portfolio Management

  • Achieve agreed Trade Finance sales targets as per annual performance objectives.
  • Manage and grow the assigned MSME Trade Finance portfolio for both new and existing customers.
  • Increase wallet share through proactive engagement with Relationship Managers and clients.
  • Analyze trade finance performance against market peers and provide insights for improvement.

Technical Advisory & Product Support

  • Independently receive, analyze, and resolve technical Trade Finance product queries.
  • Provide specialist advice to customers and Relationship Managers on Trade Finance products.
  • Interpret and apply international trade rules including UCP 600, URDG, ISP, and URC.
  • Support structured and vanilla Trade Finance solutions for MSME customers.

Client Engagement & Reporting

  • Complete detailed call reports summarizing discussions, opportunities, and agreed action points.
  • Communicate portfolio updates, outstanding liabilities, sales volumes, and revenues to relationship teams.
  • Manage communication on tariffs, operational processes, and product updates within the portfolio.

Operations, Governance & Training

  • Ensure adherence to established SLAs between customers, staff, and Trade Operations.
  • Review and update Trade Finance product and service delivery procedure manuals annually.
  • Circulate regulatory updates from government authorities, Bank of Tanzania, and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide Trade Finance training to new staff, Relationship Managers, and other bank employees.
  • Ensure compliance with the Bank’s risk management framework, internal policies, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality at all times.
  • Attend all assigned training programs within stipulated timelines.
