INTERN – BIOSTATISTICIAN (1 Position)

JOB SUMMARY

Ifakara Health Institute is seeking a Biostatistician Intern to join the MSMT2 Project team. The intern will receive hands-on training and gain practical experience in statistical and analytical work. This internship provides opportunities to contribute to data-driven research projects, including data management, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of findings across different areas of research related to malaria molecular surveillance in Tanzania.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Biostatistician Intern will:

  • Receive hands-on training on data generated by the MSMT2 project to support malaria molecular surveillance
  • Assist in analysis of biomedical data focusing on malaria
  • Develop statistical computing skills in programming languages such as R, STATA, Python, or SAS
  • Participate in the MSMT2 mentorship program and explore higher studies or career paths in Biostatistics
  • Preprocess and clean raw data prior to statistical analysis
  • Apply statistical models such as linear regression, logistic regression, and survival analysis to research questions
  • Assist in generating statistical reports and presentations for project members, collaborators, and partners
  • Attend and contribute to research meetings, discussions, and journal clubs organized by the MSMT2 project
  • Participate in training courses on manuscript preparation for scientific publications
  • Support data management activities, including cleaning, processing, analyzing, and updating the project database
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Project Principal Investigator or other supervisors

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Statistics, Biostatistics, or Data Science, completed within the past 24 months
  • Minimum GPA of 3.8 with exceptional potential for scientific leadership

EXPERIENCE (ADVANTAGEOUS)

  • Experience in genomics, molecular biology techniques, or mathematical/statistical modeling
  • At least 1 year of experience in a related field
  • Experience with data visualization tools, preferably R

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in English and Kiswahili
