Roster: 14 Days On / 7 Days Off

Contract Type: Open-Ended

Role Purpose

The Blasting Assistant is responsible for supporting the Blasting Certificate Holder (Miner) in the management and execution of blasting operations. This includes the secure receipt, storage, transportation, issuing, and charging of explosives. The successful candidate will ensure all activities are performed in strict accordance with safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Explosives Management: Assist the Blasting Certificate Holder in receiving explosives and ensuring all documentation is signed at the Mine Office.

• Site Logistics: Ensure explosives are delivered to the designated work site no more than two hours prior to the commencement of charging.

• Technical Support: Assist in the preparation of primers for secondary hang-ups and support the timing and execution of blasting rounds.

• Blasting Operations: Support the preparation and execution of mud blasting activities as required.

• Health & Safety: Maintain strict adherence to assigned safety responsibilities, attend daily toolbox meetings, and report all incidents or accidents immediately to the Pit Supervisor.

• Environmental Stewardship: Promote and support environmental management practices with a zero-tolerance policy toward pollution.

• Performance Improvement: Contribute to continuous improvement in work processes and performance standards.

Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Certificate of Secondary Education (O-Level) is required.

• Certifications: A valid Blasting Certificate is considered a distinct advantage.

• Licensing: Must possess a valid Driving License where applicable.

• Communication: Proficiency in written and verbal communication in both English and Swahili.

• Competencies: Strong teamwork skills and a high level of safety discipline under varied site conditions.

Experience

• A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the mining industry, preferably in a blasting or operational support role.

• Proven organizational skills and the ability to operate effectively within structured procedures.
