Hand in Hand Eastern Africa–Tanzania (HIHEA TZ) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) registered in Tanzania since 2018. It operates as part of the Hand in Hand Global Network with a vision to empower society—especially women—through sustainable enterprises and job creation.

HIHEA TZ currently operates through six branches: Moshi, Arusha, Manyara, Dodoma, Singida, and Meatu.

The organization works with marginalized communities to promote economic and social empowerment using participatory approaches. Its enterprise and job creation model focuses on self-help, providing training, skills, and support to enable people—particularly women—to build sustainable, market-driven businesses. Job Opportunity: Branch Accountant

Position: Branch Accountant
Location: Iringa


Job Summary

The Branch Accountant is responsible for effective financial management at the branch level. This includes:

  • Processing accounting transactions
  • Preparing financial reports
  • Supporting donor compliance and reporting

All tasks must align with professional standards and the organization’s policies and procedures.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Budgeting

  • Collaborate with the Branch Manager to prepare annual budgets
  • Monitor and analyse budget vs actual performance
  • Identify variances and implement corrective actions

Financial Operations & Controls

  • Manage petty cash disbursements and reimbursements
  • Process payments and reconcile liabilities on time
  • Ensure proper expense analysis and compliance with approved budgets
  • Deduct and remit statutory payments where applicable

Procurement & Asset Management

  • Raise internal requisitions in line with procurement policies
  • Vet supplier quotations and ensure contractual compliance
  • Manage stationery stocks and conduct monthly stock-taking
  • Oversee asset coding and quarterly verification

Accounting & Reporting

  • Perform timely postings in the accounting system
  • Prepare:
    • Bank reconciliations
    • Expense schedules
    • Stationery reconciliations
  • Conduct trial balance analysis and approve journal entries
  • Generate and share financial reports with management

Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures
  • Maintain proper filing of all financial documents
  • Support internal audit processes and implement recommendations
  • Safeguard organizational assets from fraud, loss, or misuse

MIS & System Management

  • Serve as MIS approver and focal point for system accuracy
  • Ensure proper use and security of accounting system passwords

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in credit committee evaluations
  • Reconcile fuel receipts with work tickets
  • Act as bank agent for accessing statements
  • Train and mentor branch staff on financial management
  • Supervise and appraise the Accounts Assistant
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Accounting
    • Finance
    • Commerce or related field

Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience

Professional Certification (Added Advantage)

  • CPA (T), ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficiency in computerized accounting systems
  • Strong analytical and report-writing skills
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Integrity in handling financial transactions
  • Basic auditing knowledge
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Effective communication in English and Kiswahili
