Purpose of the Consultancy

The Climate Change Consultant will support the integration of climate change, disaster risk reduction (DRR), and environmental sustainability into the UNICEF Tanzania Country Programme.

Reporting to the Chief of WASH, the consultant will collaborate with programme leadership and technical teams to support the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of climate-related programmes.


Key Responsibilities

Programme Planning & Implementation

  • Support strategic programme planning, coordination, and implementation
  • Contribute to development and management of climate-related programmes

Coordination & Leadership

  • Coordinate and manage the Tanzania Country Office (TCO) Climate Task Force
  • Facilitate collaboration across UNICEF programme sections

Advocacy & Policy Engagement

  • Support advocacy, evidence generation, and policy positioning on climate change
  • Strengthen UNICEF’s role in national climate and environmental discourse

Partnerships & Resource Mobilization

  • Build and maintain partnerships with government, NGOs, and development partners
  • Support resource mobilization and funding proposal development

Capacity Building & Knowledge Management

  • Promote climate innovation and knowledge-sharing
  • Strengthen institutional and stakeholder capacity in climate programming

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Climatology, Geology, Climate Change, DRR, Water Resource Management, Engineering, or related fields

Experience

  • At least 9 years of relevant experience in climate change, environment, or development cooperation
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with development partners and civil society on climate/DRR funding proposals
  • Experience working with government institutions, NGOs, and communities

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of Tanzania’s DRR, environment, and climate change policy frameworks
  • Familiarity with climate adaptation and mitigation programmes in sectors such as water, health, education, and nutrition
  • Knowledge of gender equality and children’s rights in climate programming

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical, communication, and advocacy skills
  • Leadership, coordination, and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills in English
  • Research and data analysis skills (added advantage)
