Job Title: Credit Manager – PayGo Phones Tanzania

About the Role

The Credit Manager – PayGo Phones Tanzania is a field-based role within Sun King’s Global Risk and Credit team. The position is responsible for overseeing credit and related risk functions within the PAYGo Phones business in Tanzania. The role focuses on designing, implementing, and sustaining robust credit risk controls and operational practices to strengthen portfolio quality, manage risk exposure, and ensure regulatory compliance.


Key Responsibilities

1. Portfolio Performance Oversight

  • Review portfolio performance to identify early signs of customer repayment stress through data analysis and direct field engagement.
  • Track key portfolio risk indicators and ensure timely escalation and visibility.
  • Produce accurate, consistent portfolio performance and risk reporting.
  • Monitor regional, area, and product-level trends and recommend corrective actions to mitigate emerging risks.

2. Audit & Compliance

  • Conduct internal reviews to identify gaps across credit-related processes, including underwriting, onboarding, collections, repossession, and customer data management.
  • Ensure alignment with internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Clearly document audit findings and propose practical risk mitigation actions.

3. Collections & Field Interventions

  • Apply preventative collection strategies, including strong KYC and onboarding practices to improve customer quality.
  • Design and implement field-informed collection strategies in collaboration with field teams to enhance recovery performance.
  • Review existing credit and collection policies, assess their portfolio impact, and recommend updates based on market conditions and field insights.
  • Improve portfolio segmentation by aligning customer buckets with appropriate ownership and accountability models.

4. Pilot & Initiative Management

  • Oversee field-based pilots and initiatives, ensuring they are properly tracked, documented, and evaluated against defined success metrics.

5. Fraud Case Oversight

  • Ensure all reported fraud cases are reviewed promptly and resolved within established timelines.

6. Reporting & Documentation

  • Compile structured field reports incorporating data analysis, operational observations, and process documentation.
  • Maintain accuracy and consistency in portfolio risk and performance reporting.
  • Conduct market and sector research and translate insights into actionable recommendations that strengthen Sun King’s sales and collections strategies.

Candidate Requirements

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, or a related business discipline.
  • Professional certification in Credit Management, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in credit, risk, audit, or data-driven roles.
  • At least 5 years in a people management or operational oversight capacity.
  • Hands-on experience with data collection, analysis, and field-based assessments.
