Driver (Seascapes) 3 Positions at AFO, Lindi, Tanga, Mtwara – January 2026

VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: Driver (SEASCAPES)

Organization: Action For Ocean (AFO)

Positions: 3

Locations: Lindi-Kilwa, Tanga, and Mtwara (with frequent travel across SeaScape regions and AFO Head Office in Dar es Salaam)

Job Type: Fixed time (1-Year Renewable Contract)


Job Purpose

The Driver Seascapes plays a key role in ensuring safe, reliable, and professional transportation services to support Action For Ocean’s field operations. The role contributes to staff safety, operational efficiency, and the timely execution of field activities while maintaining strict defensive driving standards.


Key Responsibilities

Transportation & Logistics

  • Provide safe and efficient transportation for AFO staff, visitors, partners, and donors.

  • Practice defensive driving and strictly adhere to AFO and national road safety regulations.

  • Conduct field trips, community engagement visits, and monitoring missions within SeaScape regions.

  • Perform pickups and deliveries of documents, supplies, and equipment.

  • Support field logistics such as obtaining local permits and handling program-related errands.

Safety & Vehicle Care

  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections (fuel, oil, water, brakes, tires, lights, and tools).

  • Report mechanical problems, unsafe road conditions, or security risks immediately.

  • Ensure all vehicle documents (insurance, registration, logbooks) are valid and available.

  • Maintain the cleanliness and roadworthiness of the vehicle at all times.

  • Safeguard safety equipment, including first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and toolkits.

Administration & Technology

  • Maintain accurate manual or electronic logbooks, fuel records, and mileage tracking.

  • Support office functions such as filing, photocopying, and stock movement.

  • Use smartphones or tablets for GPS navigation and digital reporting.

  • Provide timely communication and feedback to the Seascape In-Charge and People & Culture Officer.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE).

  • Licensing: Valid Class C Driving License with a clean record.

  • Certification: Professional Driving Certificate from VETA/NIT (Advanced Defensive/Off-road training is an advantage).

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of professional driving experience (NGO or development project experience preferred).

  • Geographic Knowledge: Demonstrated experience with long-distance driving in Southern and Coastal Tanzania.

  • Technical Skills: Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to use digital navigation tools.

  • High integrity, reliability, and confidentiality.

  • Strong communication skills (Swahili essential; basic English preferred).

  • Excellent time management and ability to work under pressure in remote coastal areas.

  • Respectful engagement with local communities and stakeholders.
