Job Vacancy: Fiber Network Technician
Location: Tanzania

General Overview
The Fiber Network Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber-optic cables used to carry Internet, audio, and visual transmissions. The role requires hands-on technical skills, fieldwork, and direct interaction with customers to ensure uninterrupted network service.
Minimum Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Telecommunications or an equivalent field.
- Two or more years of experience with a well-established telecommunication company.
Key Competencies
- Ability to lift heavy equipment, climb poles, and work in confined spaces.
- General knowledge of electrical processes and familiarity with field tools and equipment.
- Comfort and confidence in interacting with customers.
Key Responsibilities
Preventive Maintenance & Fault Resolution
- Ensure all preventive maintenance works are carried out according to client standards, including:
- Dark fiber testing
- Manhole cleaning and repair
- Tree pruning and pole cleaning
- Trenching/piloting and network patrolling
- Respond promptly to trouble tickets (TTs) and resolve issues within Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
- Provide status updates every 30 minutes during fault resolution, including photos of progress.
- Give feedback on closed TTs and report reasons for unclosed TTs, suggesting action plans for timely resolution.
Installation & Network Maintenance
- Install new cable lines, both underground and on telephone poles.
- Perform maintenance on existing cables, including evaluation tests and repair of old or malfunctioning cables.
- Locate problem areas and perform additional repairs as required.
- Install and maintain network systems for private lines and troubleshoot any operational issues.
Reporting
- Prepare outage reports, including photo documentation, and submit to the Project Manager.
Other Duties
- Perform any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.
