Position Description: Field Compressor Technician (02 Vacancies)

Role Purpose

The Field Compressor Technician ensures that all engineering activities related to air compression systems are effectively planned and executed. The primary goal is to maintain equipment reliability in a safe, cost-effective manner that aligns with Barrick’s “Zero Harm” policy and mining safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Maintenance & Repair

• System Maintenance: Perform routine and preventive maintenance on various air compressor brands (oil-flooded and oil-free), refrigerated/desiccant air dryers, and related equipment.

• Diagnostics: Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions; determine root causes and execute repairs based on assessment.

• Overhauls: Rebuild compressors and associated equipment while strictly adhering to wear specifications and tolerances.

• Testing: Document and test operating parameters before and after every maintenance task to ensure plant limits are met.

2. Safety & Compliance

• Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Maintain 100% compliance with SOPs for Isolation, Lockout, confined spaces, working at heights, and rigging.

• Job Safety Analysis (JSA): Complete accurate, team-based JSAs for every task.

• Reporting: Promptly report all incidents, accidents, or equipment deviations.

• Rigging Safety: Apply knowledge of load weight estimation, center of gravity, sling types, hitch usage, and hand signals.

3. Planning & Supply Chain Coordination

• Demand Planning: Establish service kit requirements for each compressor to ensure parts are available prior to scheduled maintenance.

• Inventory Liaison: Coordinate with Maintenance Planners and Store Officers to maintain reasonable stock levels of critical spares.

• Reporting: Complete all required daily, weekly, and monthly inspection logbooks and identify defects within the same shift.

4. Advanced Learning & Skills

• Display a high aptitude for learning advanced systems, including VCDs (Variable Speed Drives), industrial networks, remote monitoring, and air audits.

• Interpret wiring diagrams and maintain familiarity with low-voltage electricity and electronics.

Qualification & Experience Requirements

Education & Certification

• Required: Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.

• License: Valid Driving License.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Mechanical or Electrical Technician.

• Proven background working in a large-scale deep-level mine.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read electrical wiring diagrams.
