Job Summary
The role is responsible for driving finance business performance and analytics for Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB – Global Markets) and Treasury. It requires deep understanding of balance sheet dynamics, income statement drivers, and key performance indicators.
The role delivers critical financial insights to the Head of Business Performance & Analytics, Director of Corporate, Director of Markets, and Country Treasury, while ensuring revenue assurance through robust month-end processes, product profitability analysis, and accurate recognition of revenue, costs, and balance sheet items.
Key Accountabilities
Financial Insights & Strategic Risk Management (50%)
- Maintain accurate management accounts for Corporate and Investment Banking products and performance.
- Partner with business teams to provide timely and accurate performance, revenue, cost, and profitability insights.
- Deliver objective, analytical insights highlighting risks and opportunities across business and product portfolios.
- Proactively analyze financial risks and opportunities impacting bank performance.
- Collaborate with Strategy teams to align strategic priorities with financial outcomes.
- Participate in New Products and Governance Committees, providing financial input and monitoring benefits realization.
- Prepare management packs with quantitative reports and qualitative commentary for FCMC, MBR, Flash calls, Absa Group Limited, and other governance forums.
- Resolve data quality issues and inconsistencies within financial reporting systems.
- Prepare non-financial (Level 2) analysis and deep dives on products, systems, and processes to support decision-making.
- Escalate financial risks in a timely manner and conduct ad-hoc analysis as required by senior management.
Planning & Performance Management (20%)
- Support preparation of financial targets and monitor achievement against plans.
- Identify risk factors impacting target delivery and recommend corrective actions.
- Produce mid-month outlooks and flash reports to support performance acceleration.
- Support business teams in understanding cost drivers versus budget.
- Report financial and performance metrics to Absa Africa.
Competitive Analysis & Macro-Economic Factors (10%)
- Analyze market data and competitive trends affecting CIB performance and profitability.
- Review macro-economic and regulatory reports, including BOT publications, to inform business strategy.
- Conduct market intelligence on sector performance, deposits, loans, advances, and currency mix.
- Provide insights on competitor behavior and industry trends to guide strategic decisions.
Financial Controls & Compliance (10%)
- Partner with Financial Controls to strengthen control environments, systems, and processes.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and relevant regulatory guidelines.
- Confirm clear accounting treatment for new and existing products.
- Ensure tax treatments comply with applicable tax laws.
- Maintain accurate product and financial segmentation across profit centers.
- Ensure alignment between TM1 (Tanzania Cube), SAP, and financial reporting packs.
- Support automation and enhancement of reporting processes, including Power BI solutions.
Fund Transfer Pricing (FTP) (5%)
- Ensure FTP systems are configured in line with ALCO-approved policies.
- Support accurate FTP computation and equitable allocation of economic benefits and costs.
- Implement FTP assumption changes under appropriate governance.
- Communicate FTP results to business and finance leadership prior to posting.
Team Building & Support (5%)
- Drive personal development and support team capability building.
- Contribute to initiatives aimed at improving overall bank performance.
- Understand end-to-end processes, associated risks, and controls.
- Perform assigned snap checks in line with control guidelines.
Risk & Control Objectives
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, Absa Operational Risk Framework, and internal policies.
- Embed a strong risk culture by identifying, reporting, and mitigating risks proactively.
- Complete all mandatory training within stipulated timelines.
- Engage proactively with regulatory bodies and other stakeholders where applicable.

Technical Skills & Qualifications
Education & Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or related field.
- Professional accounting qualification (CPA or ACCA) is an added advantage.
- Master’s degree in Business Studies is an added advantage.
- Higher Diploma in Financial Sciences (required).
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in Business Finance & Analytics, Auditing, Strategic Planning, or Financial Accounting.
- Knowledge of Power BI is an added advantage.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising accuracy.
