Position Summary
The Head of Advisory and Regulatory Compliance is responsible for leading the bank’s advisory and regulatory compliance functions, ensuring full adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. The role supports business strategy through proactive compliance advisory, regulatory engagement, and effective risk management.
This position plays a critical role in safeguarding NBC’s reputation, ensuring regulatory confidence, and contributing to the bank’s long-term sustainability by fostering a strong culture of compliance across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Advisory
- Develop, implement, and maintain compliance policies and procedures aligned with local and international regulatory requirements.
- Provide strategic compliance advisory support to business units, ensuring regulatory requirements are clearly understood and embedded in operations.
- Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on business activities, ensuring timely adaptation.
- Oversee the preparation, review, and submission of regulatory reports.
- Liaise effectively with regulatory authorities and external stakeholders.
Risk Management & Control Framework
- Conduct compliance risk assessments to identify, evaluate, and mitigate regulatory risks.
- Develop and maintain a robust compliance control framework.
- Monitor, manage, and report compliance incidents and breaches, ensuring timely remediation.
- Proactively assess the effectiveness of compliance processes and implement improvements.
Audit, Monitoring & Assurance
- Plan, conduct, and oversee compliance audits to ensure adherence to regulatory and internal requirements.
- Ensure continuous monitoring of compliance processes and controls.
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing compliance team.
- Implement performance management and succession planning for key compliance roles.
- Foster a culture of ethics, integrity, and accountability across the organization.
Strategy, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the development and execution of the Compliance Department’s strategic plan.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure compliance effectiveness.
- Identify and implement innovative solutions to enhance compliance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Develop and deliver compliance training and awareness programs for staff.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 12 years’ experience in compliance or financial services.
- Proven experience in leading and managing compliance teams.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to balance regulatory requirements and commercial objectives.
- In-depth knowledge of local and global banking regulatory frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in identifying, assessing, and mitigating compliance risks.
- Experience engaging with regulators and senior internal stakeholders.
Academic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Business Administration, Finance, Commerce, or a related field (mandatory).
- Master’s Degree or postgraduate qualification in Compliance, Risk Management, or Corporate Governance is an added advantage.
