Organization Overview:
The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is responsible for the maintenance and development of the Trunk and Regional Roads Network in Tanzania Mainland. The agency also oversees Axle Load Control Operations using weighbridge scales.

The Regional Manager – TANROADS Kilimanjaro, on behalf of the Chief Executive TANROADS, invites qualified and competent Tanzanians to apply for the following position under the Project for Upgrading of Same – Kisiwani – Mkomazi (100.5 km) Road to Bitumen Standard; Lot 2: Ndungu – Mkomazi Section (36 km) in Kilimanjaro Region.


Position Title: Highway Engineer

Entry Qualifications:

  • Must be a Tanzanian Citizen.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered with ERB as a Professional Engineer and hold a current practicing license.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Highway Engineering is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ cumulative experience in road construction design and/or supervision.
  • Must have served as a Highway Engineer (design or equivalent supervision capacity) in at least two road and bridge construction projects of similar nature and magnitude in the last 10 years.
  • Proficiency in both Swahili and English (written and spoken) is mandatory.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise compliance with contract conditions and specifications.
  • Review existing designs, identify any shortfalls, and advise the Resident Engineer during construction.
  • Control geometric design conformity in construction works, applying best practices depending on site conditions.
  • Inspect completed works to ensure technical specification compliance.
  • Prepare control charts for main activities and a project master schedule, indicating past performance and forecasts for completion.
  • Measure quantities of works satisfactorily carried out.
  • Prepare and submit detailed progress reports with updated costs of civil works to the Resident Engineer.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Project Manager (PM).
