Intern – Business Development (6 Positions)

Organization: Private Agricultural Sector Support (PASS)

Duration: 1 Year

Locations: Morogoro, Mbeya, Songea, Tabora, Arusha, and Mwanza

Reporting to: Business Manager/ Business Development Officer

Job Purpose

To support the Business Development function in identifying, developing, and monitoring agribusiness opportunities within the zone, while gaining practical experience in business appraisal, stakeholder engagement, portfolio monitoring, and client relationship management.


Duties and Responsibilities

1. Business Development & Client Support

  • Assist in reviewing business ideas and conducting preliminary evaluations of proposals submitted for support.

  • Support entrepreneurs in improving their proposals into acceptable Business Plans under supervision.

  • Participate in field visits to clients and potential clients for business assessment and monitoring.

  • Assist in monitoring client performance against approved business plans and budgets.

  • Support identification of agribusiness bottlenecks such as market access, mechanization, and processing challenges.

2. Stakeholder Engagement & Promotion

  • Support promotional activities to raise awareness about the Trust’s products and services.

  • Assist in organizing and participating in stakeholder meetings, exhibitions, and community outreach programs.

  • Support liaison activities with local authorities and agricultural stakeholders under supervision.

3. Credit & Portfolio Support

  • Assist in documentation and tracking of credit guarantee applications.

  • Support monitoring of portfolio performance and preparation of periodic reports.

  • Assist in maintaining proper filing and data quality for customer contracts and credit guarantees.

  • Support risk identification within the portfolio and escalate issues to supervisors.

4. Administration & Financial Support

  • Assist in maintaining proper records of business development activities.

  • Support updating and maintaining the fixed asset register and tagging verification.

  • Assist in petty cash documentation and reconciliation under supervision.

  • Support proper filing of receipts and banking documentation (excluding authorization/signatory responsibilities).

  • Assist in ensuring proper documentation of zonal revenues and reporting discrepancies.

5. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Assist in collecting and compiling data for zonal performance reports.

  • Support Monitoring & Evaluation activities and data quality checks.

  • Prepare draft reports and summaries for review by the supervisor.

  • Support implementation of zonal strategies and initiatives.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.

  • Interest: Strong interest in agricultural finance and agribusiness development.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Core Competencies: Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Added Advantage: Basic knowledge of business analysis and financial assessment.

  • Travel: Willingness to travel within the zone for field activities.
