Role Purpose
The British Council offers highly motivated individuals an experiential learning opportunity to support their transition into the workforce through its inclusive internship programme.
The Project and Administration Intern will provide comprehensive administrative, logistical, and programme support to ensure effective project delivery and smooth office operations. The role supports compliance with British Council policies and procedures, including Safeguarding, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), and Environmental Sustainability.
Role Context
This internship is designed to support individuals from marginalised backgrounds to gain essential workplace skills and professional experience, contributing to improved employability and upward social mobility. The role forms part of the British Council’s broader commitment to social value and inclusion.
Main Accountabilities
The intern will support the British Council Tanzania team across projects and administrative services, gaining exposure to operational and programme activities in a local, regional, and international context.
1. Administrative Support
- Work with the Business Support Team to ensure office supplies are ordered and invoices processed.
- Shadow Customer Services and Exams teams to learn about British Council products and support customer enquiries.
- Manage travel logistics including flight bookings, airport transfers, and hotel reservations.
- Oversee stock control and office resource management (e.g. stationery and supplies).
2. Commercial and Financial Management Support
- Support budget tracking, expenditure recording, and basic financial reconciliations under supervision.
- Maintain and reconcile petty cash.
- Support the Finance Administrator with staff and vendor reconciliations, staff debtor accounts (e.g. mobile and utility bills), and liaison with internal teams and the regional hub.
3. Programme Management and Compliance
- Support compliance with organisational policies, including safeguarding, EDI, and financial procedures.
- Assist with data collection, entry, and quality assurance for programme monitoring and evaluation.
- Provide logistical and administrative support for stakeholder meetings, workshops, and events.
4. Digital and Records Management
- Assist in updating and maintaining project databases and digital tools.
- Work with Digital and M&E teams to ensure accurate and timely data entry.
- Coordinate with teams to ensure project documentation follows agreed naming conventions.
- Maintain effective filing systems for contracts, invoices, delivery notes, and inventories.
