Job Summary

The role focuses on supporting the implementation of literacy programs in schools by:

  • Coaching subject advisors and teachers
  • Monitoring program delivery and impact
  • Supporting data collection and analysis
  • Engaging communities and stakeholders

Key Responsibilities

1. Program Implementation, Training & Monitoring

  • Serve as a technical resource on literacy instruction and reading habits
  • Support subject advisors in:
    • Classroom teaching
    • Library reading programs
  • Observe, demonstrate, and coach advisors and teachers
  • Ensure effective implementation of literacy program design
  • Coordinate Grade 1 & 2 assessments to track:
    • Reading progress
    • Writing development
  • Support data analysis to improve teaching strategies
  • Provide ongoing technical support to ensure sustainability

2. Training & Community Engagement

  • Participate in:
    • Teacher and librarian training sessions
    • Literacy events and parent meetings
  • Support donor visits through:
    • Demonstrations
    • Presentations
  • Engage parents/guardians:
    • Collect contact information
    • Share weekly literacy-focused SMS messages
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to strengthen program impact

3. Data Collection & Performance Management

  • Collect and manage program-related data from schools
  • Support assessment tracking and reporting
  • Set and review annual performance goals with supervisors

4. Planning, Reporting & Documentation

  • Plan and document school visits regularly
  • Submit timely reports on program progress
  • Collect and share:
    • Success stories
    • Best practices
    • Lessons learned

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Education
    • Language / Linguistics (preferred)
  • 2–3 years relevant work experience
  • Proficiency in:
    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • Internet and digital tools
  • Strong communication skills in:
    • English
    • Kiswahili

Preferred

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate program implementation
  • Experience working with:
    • Schools and teachers
    • Young children
    • Literacy or education programs
  • Ability to:
    • Manage multiple priorities
    • Take initiative
  • Willingness to:
    • Travel up to 90% of the time to school sites
