Job Purpose
The Machine Specialist is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimizing production machinery to ensure:
- High plant availability
- Consistent product quality
- Minimum operational cost without compromising standards
The role also provides technical expertise, coaching, and support to shift teams in machine operation, maintenance, and problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Support
- Provide technical support to shift teams during operations (including standby and day shifts)
- Act as functional expert in troubleshooting and problem-solving
- Guide teams on machine operation, fault diagnosis, and failure response
- Coach and mentor operators on machine usage and maintenance
- Review system indicators and address deviations
- Participate in optimization trials and performance improvement initiatives
- Develop and update machine work instructions
- Monitor and ensure machines operate at rated speed
- Be available for shift work and call-outs when required
2. Planned Maintenance
- Participate in maintenance planning meetings
- Execute maintenance tasks during scheduled downtime
- Report incomplete work to maintenance planners for rescheduling
- Support team members during maintenance activities
- Complete SAP and related maintenance documentation
- Contribute to post-maintenance reviews and improvement actions
- Optimize maintenance schedules and procedures
- Train operators on autonomous maintenance practices
3. Routine Maintenance
- Perform cleaning, lubrication, and inspection activities
- Execute scheduled routine maintenance tasks
- Resolve issues identified during maintenance using structured problem-solving
- Escalate unresolved issues to maintenance planners
- Conduct condition monitoring activities
- Ensure proper documentation of maintenance activities in SAP
4. Running Repairs
- Perform or support breakdown repairs on machinery
- Diagnose faults and determine corrective actions
- Engage OEMs or specialists when necessary
- Ensure repairs fully resolve technical issues
- Document all repairs and update SAP systems
- Escalate unresolved issues for planning in maintenance schedules
5. Problem Solving & Optimization
- Apply structured problem-solving methodologies
- Support systemic and situational problem resolution
- Escalate complex issues when needed
- Contribute as a technical expert in optimization initiatives
- Support engineering change management processes
6. Safety & Housekeeping
- Maintain strict adherence to safety standards and procedures
- Identify and report unsafe practices
- Apply 4S principles (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain)
- Ensure compliance with CCBA safety and operational policies
7. Training & Development
- Train, coach, and assess operators on asset care and maintenance
- Develop operational and technical standards and work instructions
- Support continuous improvement and technical capability building
- Ensure decisions are timely and technically sound
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering (Instrumentation advantage)
Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering
- FMCG industry experience is an advantage
- Knowledge of packaging machinery and systems
Technical Skills
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
- Knowledge of SAP systems
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
