Are you a passionate, driven, and results-oriented young professional looking to grow your career in agriculture? Kilombero Sugar Company Limited (KSCL) is offering an exciting opportunity for a Manager in Training (MIT) within our Speedling Section.
This position is part of a unique, structured development program designed to equip trainees with specialized skills in Speedling Propagation, Plant Nutrition, Agricultural Biotechnology, and Nursery Management. Through intensive on-the-job learning, you will gain hands-on experience and leadership exposure to prepare you for a management role within KSCL.
🎓 About the MIT Development Programme
The MIT Development Programme is a comprehensive training pathway designed to transition talented graduates into future leaders at KSCL. It aims to:
- Introduce trainees to the Sugar Industry and the operations of KSCL.
- Provide technical, leadership, and business knowledge needed for future managerial positions.
- Prepare participants for permanent roles upon successful completion.
- Develop competent, innovative leaders who contribute significantly to KSCL’s growth and sustainability.
The programme covers technical areas such as Engineering, Agriculture, and Commercial Operations — ensuring participants graduate with both strategic insight and practical expertise.
🎯 Programme Objectives
Throughout the MIT journey, participants will gain expertise in:
- Quality Control: Monitoring KPIs to ensure speedling quality and health.
- Sustainability: Implementing eco-friendly cultivation and environmental practices.
- People Management: Developing leadership and team motivation skills.
- Logistics & Transportation: Overseeing the movement and distribution of seedlings.
- Agricultural Projects: Planning and executing nursery improvement and expansion projects.
- Occupational Safety: Ensuring adherence to health and safety standards in agricultural operations.
- Training & Development: Equipping and upskilling nursery teams.
- Communication: Engaging effectively with suppliers, customers, and internal teams.
- Data Analysis: Using data-driven insights for production decision-making.
- Innovation & Research: Applying new technologies to enhance speedling production.
🌾 Relevant Agricultural Knowledge
Successful candidates will also develop advanced knowledge in:
- Sugarcane Botany & Physiology – including genetics, varieties, and growth behavior.
- Pest & Disease Control – identification and management of common threats.
- Soil & Irrigation Management – optimizing soil health and efficient irrigation systems.
- Agricultural Legislation – understanding laws and regulations related to production and pesticide use.
- Agricultural Economics – applying economic principles to optimize production costs.
- Agricultural Technology – leveraging innovations like drones, sensors, and GIS for smart farming.
🎓 Minimum Requirements
To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must have:
- A BSc in Agronomy, General Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, or an equivalent degree.
- Strong understanding of sugarcane physiology, particularly in bud sprouting, rooting, and nutrition.
- Experience in vegetative propagation — including single-eyed set propagation and tissue culture (lab experience is an advantage).
- Familiarity with irrigation and fertigation systems (fertigation experience is a plus).
- Knowledge of composting sugar industry disposals (an added advantage).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Background in agronomic experimentation statistics is a strong advantage.
📃 Terms of Service
The successful candidate will be engaged on a fixed-term contract for the duration of the MIT Programme.
