Mechanical Supervisor (Underground Maintenance)

Position Overview

The Barrick North Mara Team is seeking to recruit a Mechanical Supervisor to join and grow within our team.

This role is responsible for supervising underground maintenance activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of mobile and auxiliary equipment while maintaining high performance and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Safety & Compliance

Ensure the safety of employees and contractors by promoting a strong safety culture
Implement and enforce safe work practices and procedures
Proactively prevent incidents, theft, and fraud

2. Maintenance & Operations

Manage SAP maintenance processes, including:
- Notifications and work orders
- Parts ordering
- Job history recording and reporting
Oversee commissioning activities for mechanical systems
Develop and implement standard work procedures to improve productivity
Manage workshop facilities, ensuring proper housekeeping and tool management
Ensure all work orders are completed, updated, and properly closed

3. Planning, Budgeting & Cost Control

Support the UG Mobile Fleet Superintendent in:
- Maintenance budgeting and cost control
- Monitoring consumables and ensuring costs align with budget
Contribute to long-term maintenance planning, including:
- Routine and non-routine maintenance
- Capital requirements
- Life-of-Mine planning
Develop reporting systems for maintenance, planning, and cost tracking

4. Leadership & People Management

Provide training, mentoring, and performance management to team members
Develop maintenance training programs and procedures
Enforce discipline and address substandard performance when necessary
Build a competent, safe, and results-oriented maintenance team

Qualifications

Trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution

Experience & Competencies

Minimum 5 years’ experience in underground maintenance operations
Proven experience with SAP or computerized maintenance systems
Strong background in maintenance of underground mining equipment, including:
- Sandvik drills, trucks, and loaders
- Auxiliary equipment such as CAT Integrated Tool Carriers, Normet Agi’s & Spraymec, and MacLean EC3 units
Solid understanding of maintenance standards, methods, and procedures
Experience in coaching and training employees
Strong inventory and materials management knowledge

Additional Requirements

Medically fit for underground mining environment
Valid Tanzanian driver’s license
Ability to operate light vehicles
