Job Purpose

The Micro Insurance Business Development Officer (BDO) will be responsible for developing assigned distribution channels, managing travel, agriculture, and micro-insurance initiatives, and expanding market presence through product diversification. The role focuses on growing revenue and increasing customer numbers within the emerging consumer segment.

The position reports to the Sales Manager – Direct and Alternative Channels.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product development teams to design inclusive insurance products targeting underserved, underrepresented, and financially unprivileged communities
  • Support the development and execution of marketing and outreach initiatives to increase awareness of inclusive insurance products
  • Provide training and ongoing support to sales teams and intermediaries to effectively communicate product benefits
  • Act as a liaison between the company and community organizations, advocacy groups, partners, and other stakeholders to gather insights and improve offerings
  • Work closely with internal teams, including customer service and claims, to ensure products are accessible and easy to understand
  • Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory requirements, and best practices related to inclusive insurance
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the organization
  • Ensure retention of clients, intermediaries, and partners in line with segment targets
  • Execute duties in accordance with the approved Delegated Authority Matrix
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management
  • Deliver performance targets as defined in departmental strategy maps, balanced scorecards, and personal scorecards

Knowledge, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
  • Previous experience in the insurance industry, particularly in inclusive insurance, DEI initiatives, or related areas
  • Strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles with a demonstrated commitment to these values
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven recommendations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software applications

Technical / Functional Competencies

  • Knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements
  • Understanding of insurance products
  • Sales and marketing management skills
