Job Opportunity: Mine Geologist

Matongo Gold Mines Ltd is seeking a dedicated Mine Geologist to join and grow their underground geology team in Mwanza, Tanzania. This role involves overseeing all underground mine geology activities and driving technical excellence to ensure accurate data collection and orebody optimization.


Key Responsibilities

The Mine Geologist will report to the Mine General Manager and will be responsible for the following:

  • Grade Control & Recovery: Implement and manage grade control programs to optimize ore recovery, minimize dilution, and deliver technical evaluations for waste segregation.

  • Geological Modeling: Develop and maintain geological models by incorporating data from drilling, field mapping, and observations.

  • Operations & Compliance: Maintain procedures for mine-to-mill reconciliation and ensure data accuracy aligns with company standards.

  • Planning & Strategy: Work with the mining team to incorporate geological insights into mine planning designs and mining strategies.

  • Mapping & Exploration: Drive underground mapping activities to interpret host lithologies and mineralization controls.

  • Drilling Management: Oversee drilling productivity to meet budget forecasts safely and provide input for near-mine exploration and feasibility studies.

  • Budgeting: Plan and follow up on monthly, yearly, and life-of-mine budgets for the geology department.

  • Reporting: Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly geological reports.


Candidate Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology or a related field.

  • Membership in a reputable professional board is an added advantage.

Experience & Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience as a mine geologist in underground gold mining.

  • Technical knowledge in mineral resource estimation and reconciliation.

  • Proficiency in geological modelling software and Microsoft Office.

  • Strong background in resource modelling, grade control, and geological mapping.

  • Knowledge of sampling, assay, and QA/QC standards.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and a strong commitment to safety.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
