The organization is also highly active in Maternal and Newborn Health Care (MNHC), including obstetric fistula repairs. Its Maternity and Newborn Wing serves as a referral centre for high-risk and emergency deliveries in Dar es Salaam and the Eastern Zone of Tanzania.
Role Summary
CCBRT is seeking a dynamic Ophthalmologist (Eye Specialist) to strengthen its Eye Unit. The successful candidate will provide both medical and surgical eye care within the Ophthalmology Department and contribute to clinical excellence, research, and service development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Care & Surgery
- Provide high-quality medical and surgical care in the Ophthalmology Unit.
- Conduct eye surgeries and manage both routine and complex cases.
- Operate across:
- Outpatient Department (OPD)
- Inpatient Department (IPD)
- Operating Theatre Department (OTD)
2. Patient Management
- Screen and examine patients attending OPD clinics.
- Review cases referred by junior doctors and provide specialized opinions.
- Participate in ward rounds and patient evaluations.
- Assist in decision-making for surgical cases.
3. Supervision & Team Support
- Supervise and mentor junior doctors in OPD and wards.
- Participate in on-call duties and daily morning briefings.
4. Quality, Research & Development
- Participate in clinical audits and research activities.
- Contribute to development of:
- Clinical guidelines
- Protocols
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Ensure accuracy and quality of medical data.
- Promote a culture of learning and research within the department.
5. Advisory & Outreach
- Provide expert consultations within and across departments.
- Contribute to marketing and promotion of CCBRT eye services.
- Offer medical-legal advice when required.
Candidate Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Medicine (MMED in Ophthalmology) from a recognized institution.
- Registered with the Medical Council of Tanganyika.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a surgeon.
- Valid 2026 practicing license.
- Competence in performing relevant ophthalmic medical and surgical procedures.
