Patient Support Supervisor (Full Time – 100%)

Position Summary
The Patient Support Supervisor works closely with the Project Medical Referent to supervise and implement patient support activities according to MSF protocols, standards, and procedures.
The role focuses on empowering patients in managing their illness and treatment, addressing both medical and psychosocial aspects of care.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Support Strategy
- Assist the Patient Support Activity Manager in assessing patient support needs.
- Contribute to defining patient support strategies based on evolving medical needs and contextual realities.
- Develop patient support tools such as:
- Counselling and education protocols
- Health promotion messages
- Patient guidance materials.
2. Implementation & Monitoring
- Ensure the effective implementation of patient support activities according to MSF protocols and standards.
- Monitor and evaluate program activities to ensure quality and effectiveness.
- Maintain strong communication and collaboration with project teams and external partners working in patient support.
3. Staff Supervision & Human Resources
- Supervise and support staff under the patient support unit.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate team activities.
- Collaborate with the HR Department to manage processes such as:
- Recruitment
- Training and induction
- Staff evaluation
- Talent development and coaching
- Internal communication.
4. Data Management & Reporting
- Collect and analyze data related to patient support activities.
- Compile and summarize reports from patient support staff.
- Ensure accurate documentation and reporting for program monitoring.
Context-Specific Responsibilities
Patient Support & Access to Care
- Support differentiated care models for stable patients in hard-to-reach areas.
- Coordinate patient support interventions including:
- Transport support
- Nutritional support linkages
- Treatment literacy sessions
- Monitor defaulter tracing systems, including community-based follow-ups and Community Health Worker (CHW) linkages.
- Support community education activities to improve health-seeking behavior and early treatment access.
Community Linkages & Referral Systems
- Strengthen referral pathways between health facilities and community structures.
- Ensure compliance with referral pathways and referral criteria.
- Coordinate with Ministry of Health (MoH) counterparts to align strategies with district health priorities.
Quality of Counselling & Patient Protection
- Ensure counselling approaches are culturally appropriate, considering:
- Stigma
- Gender dynamics
- Traditional beliefs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of counselling sessions and patient support interventions.
- Identify and report protection risks, including:
- Gender-based violence (GBV)
- Neglect
- Stigma-related abuse.
- Provide on-the-job coaching to improve counselling quality and confidentiality practices.
Team Management & Supervision
- Line manage Patient Support staff including:
- Counsellors
- Social workers
- Peer educators
- Outreach workers.
- Provide technical guidance and supportive supervision to ensure quality implementation of activities.
Data Monitoring & Reporting
- Ensure consistent use of standardized data collection tools such as:
- Patient Support Register
- Counselling Session Logbook
- Referral Tracking Forms.
- Implement monthly reporting and performance monitoring.
Educational Qualifications
Applicants must hold a University Degree in one of the following fields:
- Psychology
- Counselling
- Social Sciences
- Communication
- Health Promotion
- Educational Sciences
- Nursing
Experience
- At least 2 years of experience in NGO settings (desirable).
- Demonstrated experience in team supervision and training.
Language Requirements
- English – Required
- Swahili – Required

- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
