Mwamba Mining Limited is a Tanzanian gold mining and mineral processing company founded in 2018 that is dedicated to professionalizing the Artisanal and Small-scale Gold Mining (ASGM) sector. Based in Mwanza, the company operates a “mine-to-market” model that provides local miners with an alternative to hazardous mercury-based processing. By utilizing industrial-scale Carbon-in-Pulp (CIP) facilities, such as their flagship Buziba plant in the Geita District, Mwamba can recover over 90% of gold from ore—more than double the yield of traditional methods. This approach not only doubles the income of participating miners but also eliminates the release of toxic mercury into the environment, a mission for which the company was recognized as a global success story by the World Gold Council in 2025.

Beyond processing, Mwamba is a significant player in mineral exploration through its strategic partnership with Barrick Gold, the world’s second-largest gold producer. In 2024, the two companies entered into a major earn-in agreement to explore the highly prospective but under-explored Nzega Greenstone Belt, a partnership that has since expanded to include over $23 million in funding. To ensure transparency and traceability, Mwamba developed “WAZI,” a digital blockchain-powered platform that manages ore transactions and payments via M-Pesa. This integration of high-level exploration with community-focused processing allows Mwamba to bridge the gap between small-scale Tanzanian miners and the responsible international gold market.
