Purpose of the Job
The Program Assistant will provide daily supervision to Play labs within the ECD project. The role is accountable for children’s performance, the quality of play labs, and ensuring equitable learning opportunities and outcomes for the most vulnerable children.
Key Responsibilities
Community Mobilization and Facilitation

Achieve dissemination of project objectives and approaches among communities, government, and stakeholders.

Apply participatory techniques to facilitate children and communities in identifying development priorities.

Facilitate community ownership and participation in play lab projects.
Project Delivery and Management

Ensure overall management of procurement, logistics, and administration based on BRAC policy.

Collaborate with project staff to implement internal control systems and resolve field-level issues.

Organize monthly parents and community meetings at play lab centers.

Maintain a child attendance rate of more than 90% at the play labs.

Ensure play lab materials and equipment are high quality and well-maintained.
Supervision and Monitoring

Conduct field visits to play lab centers for 100% of the work.

Monitor all project activities, document findings, and share reports with the Area Manager.

Recruit, develop, and appraise the job performance of play leaders.

Attend staff meetings and develop monthly refresher modules.
Advocacy and Child Protection
-
Establish good working relations with government stakeholders at district and regional levels.

Promote and abide by internal policies, including the child protection policy.

Ensure mandatory reporting of child abuse cases and ensure Child Protection Committees are fully functional.

Link children under play lab centers with available services in their surroundings.
Required Experience and Skills
-
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Care and Development, Education Management, Sociology, Social Work, Development Studies, or Community Development.

Experience: At least 1-2 years of practical experience working with NGOs in Education, Early Childhood, or Child Protection programs.

Knowledge: Understanding of the Tanzanian education system, including government policies and early learning opportunities.

Soft Skills: Strong teamwork, communication, and flexibility.

Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of monitoring and evaluation; experience in administration and leadership.

Added Advantage: Teaching experience in early years.
